- Wedding: December 2014
Fiance and I are in our early 40’s. We both have children from previous marriages. We’ve been together for 2.5 years and have been engaged for just about 9 months.
We haven’t chosen a date yet because we are in no rush. I personally don’t see the need to hurry up and get married just to say we are married. We still live apart, but live very close to each other and see each other 5-6 times a week. I am 100% happy with the way things are right now and so is he.
I was with my mom yesterday when she brought up the whole date thing again. Her reasoning is she said she is afraid if we wait too long, we’ll end up splitting up before we even have a chance to get married. I don’t know why, but her saying that kind of hurt my feelings a little bit. I feel like if we are going to split up over the next few years it’s going to happen whether we are officially married or not.
Don’t get me wrong, I look forward to having a date to circle on my calendar and dress shopping will be fun, but I don’t want to set a date just so those things can happen.
If we’re happy with the way things are, is that such a bad thing?
