Is it weird/wrong to wear a gold ring on my wedding ring finger?

@lillyofthevalley12345:  It’s just jewelry so there’s no right or wrong about it. It does look like a wedding band, so if you don’t mind people assuming you’re married, it’s no big deal. If you’re going to get offended or embarassed, probably better not to wear it. I’m North American and have never heard it’s bad luck. I used to wear other rings on that finger and lots of my friends did too. Most of them were more like dress rings or cocktail rings so didn’t really look like engagement or wedding rings. It’s not a big deal either way.

How fun! Just get it sized. I live in the US, and here it’s inappropriate to wear a ring on that finger unless engaged/married. Especially because that ring screams wedding band.

I always wore rings on my ring finger before I was married. Even when I didn’t even have a boyfriend. I didn’t know this was something anyone would even care about or feel weird about. Come to think of it my now husband bought me a Tiffany ring before we were even engaged because I said that I liked it, it definitely wasn’t a promise ring, and I wore it on my left hand because that was the only finger it fit. It wasn’t a secret message to him to get him to propose, I just liked it because it was pretty. And I didn’t worry much about what anyone might think. I would just wear it or get it sized if the concept bothers you so much. It’s so sweet of your mom to give it you, don’t just let it sit in the jewelry box enjoy it!

That is a very beautiful ring and if you want to wear it on that finger, then that is your business.You are living your life for you and not anyone else, so do what makes you happy and don’t worry about what some stranger who has no impact on your life will think.

Just resize it? and wear it on any other finger if you don’t want to be bombarded with questions, If I really wanted to wear it on my left ring fin her I wouldn’t care what people thought or said, but it doesn’t seem like you’re to keen wearing it on the left ring finger so I’d just get it resized.

My only reaction when noticing someone’s ring is always oooh pretty or ooh blingyy, or I want one like that! lol. Since I never care about their marital status..

I have always wear my ring on my left ring finger since teenager, and no one ever asked.

@lillyofthevalley12345:

Before you wear that emerald, get the setting checked and have the ring insured. You don’t want to lose more diamonds!

If you want to use it as an engagement ring, that’s up to you, but it doesn’t seem practical for everyday wear. I’d just wear it on special occasions, especially since it’s a delicate heirloom.

@lillyofthevalley12345:  Beautiful emerald! if you want to use is as an engagement ring, I think you totally should! I do think you should have it inspected and everything checked out prior to and get it fixed up so you can wear it without any issues- I would just let your bf know that your mom has an emerald ring for you that you want to use as your engagement ring

Wow I love that emerald! Yes diamonds can fall out so I definitely wouldn’t wear it until you get it all checked out by a jeweler for loose stones and any damage. It looks great as an engagement ring or a RHR, if you do decide to use it as an engagement ring though I personally wouldn’t wear it until you are engaged. It would make it a little less special to me if I wore it all the time then one day I get engaged and just slip it off one finger onto my ring finger.

Might be hard to find a wedding band to go with that ring if you do use it as an engagement ring. Just something to consider.

I’m with PPs – I would get it enlarged and wear it on the right hand. You have a boyfriend who would DEFINITELY receive the most awkward questions about it and you don’t want to put him throught that. I can see this being fine if you’re single and have no plans to ever get married (and therefore it would *lolol* deter any *lolol* unwelcome advances). But if you’re with someone and it’s serious, I’d avoid the weird questions.

It’s not bad luck unless you believe in old wives’ tales and things of that nature (and many women do). It would just raise questions.

THAT EMERALD IS BEAUTIFUL :)))))

@mishikall:  🙂 thank you!!! Tbh i never thought I’d be able to fit 4 bands on my short fingers. I did get them all resized to be 1/2 size bigger, so they could fit comfortably.
