@ceebree:  I want one now for that same purpose, but Fiance asked me to wait until we’re married so it’s not weird that I have a band on. Glad I’m not the only one who wants a stand-in ring for the gym!!

For me, personally, my wedding band is for the times when I wouldn’t be comfortable wearing my ER. If I wouldn’t be comfortable wearing my ER, then I wouldn’t be comfortable wearing something that appeared equally as valuable. FWIW, I have worn my rings on cruises, on the beach, overseas (both to Mexico and to Europe), etc. and have never felt I shouldn’t have. I can’t imagine where I would need a stand-in – or if I did, I can’t imagine needing one as blingy as the real one.

@MUAbride2be:  I refuse to wear my real rings while going into the pool, at the beach (yes I play in the sand), and hiking.  All of these things I’d do while in Hawaii.  Honestly I’ve only worn my rings out of town once or twice while visiting family.  Yes, my rings our insured but I love them and don’t want to go through the hassle.  I’ve worn nothing or a stand-in most of the time we travel . DH and I have not done any international travel yet so attracting attention is not really a concern.  We only have travelled in safe areas here in the US.  I’m sure when we go to Russia I will probably just take a simple band so not to attract any additional attention than we already do being an interacial couple.

FYI I just ordered an over the top ring from berricle today too which I’m going to consider my “Las Vegas Ring” since it is so flashy.  Nothing wrong with having variety and a little bit of fun.

I don’t think it’s weird to wear a stand in ring. I have a similiar one that I wear whenever I have to send my real ring out (It’s white gold so it needs rhodium plating every once in a while, and one time I needed something fixed) I just hate leaving home without a ring on that finger! I am not married yet so I can’t just wear a band until then.

I know a lot of people on here posted about theft, but I got the impresion that it wasn’t what OP was worried about. She is not going to a poor third world country she is going to be in America. (Not that people don’t get robbed in America) She seemed more concerned about losing her ring swimming in the ocean. Which I know I have friends that get really freaked out about that. Although, personally I have always worn my ring in the ocean and haven’t had an issue.

I honestly don’t think it’s weird. If you want to rock another ring when you vaca I say go for it! I have a couple of berricle rings, and I want more! I like different styles, so I can get that on berricle without spending thousands. I have no problem saying they’re from berricle! It is what it is. I love sparkle and love switching out sometimes. lol I have a canary cushion right hand ring from berricle, and a clear cz halo from berricle. My mom has an emerald cut canary halo from berricle.

@This Time Round:  Here is the thing, what if the choice is between the real ring or the fake ring? OFC you can choose to not wear a ring, but I would much rather wear one. I feel we can get robbed anywhere whether we are travling or not. Does it mean you should never wear jewelry? IDK, but I feel there is no point of buying a ring if it just gonna sit in a box forever.

When you are travling, you don’t really have a super safe spot to put your ring, and the ring can be misplaced and be gone forever. This is why a stand in would be nice to have.

@Sweet.Sugar.Rose:  The halo looks very similar to my er but mine isn’t a split shank.

I love my stand-ins, and I don’t think it’s weird to have them.  One of my stand-ins is my most worn ring!

I think it’s just the sort of thing where you should use common sense.  I agree with TTR that in many cases a plain band’s the most practical choice, but when you’re going to Hawaii (or any heavily touristed area), I’d say it depends what you’re planning on doing.

I’m a SCUBA diver, and as much as I love my bling, I would never wear a sparkly stand-in for diving or snorkeling (and I definitely wouldn’t if I was in an area with barracuda, which sounds sort of random, but they will go after shiny things).

Typically when I travel abroad, I usually don’t wear my expensive jewelry or my wedding rings.  If I’m traveling domestically, I just wear my regular jewelry.  I guess I don’t see the point in getting a stand in ring unless you’re prone to losing things or are careless.

Sigh….What you seem to be missing, is that you can wear a ring that is just a plain band if you are travelling in an area that is impovrished and the risk is higher.   And that that is safer then wearing any type of fake sparkly, diamond looking ring.
