There’s a bridal fair going on in a few weeks not far from where I live. The Bridal Fair will showcase reception and ceremony venues, wedding fashion, decor, entertainment, photography, invitations and cakes. The thing is I’m having my wedding 350 miles away in another state. Would it be worth going to even though I wouldn’t be able to use most of the vendors?

Eh, I went to two bridal shows and both were sort of a waste of time in my opinion. There are usually SO many people there that its tough to get around and all the vendors were ones that I had seen reviews for online already.

The only reason I would suggest going to those terrible things is for the good vendor deals… but you can’t use the vendors so don’t waste your time.

I went to one here in DC even though my wedding is in CA and I had my vendors picked out anyway. However, I got some great freebies/free food and also got some amazing ideas. Some of the vendors were national and there was honeymoon stuff too, so it wasn’t a waste of my/their time. I say, if you have time and can go with your FI/a girlfriend who is also getting married, it can be kind of fun.
Warning though, I got there early, but as the crowds grew it got a lot less fun.

ONLY go to the best wedding shows you can find. Many of them aren’t worth it (crappy vendors, lots of ppl pushing, bad fashion shows)- but the ones with big showcases of spectacular vendors are so so so worth checking out. If only just to get decor ideas! I just checked out teh WedLuxe show in Toronto and I left feeling SO inspired by the amazing vendors:
WedLuxe Wedding Show 2013 – Part 3
I wouldn’t have missed that show for the world!

@Eckle: I say why not! I went to the MSP one and loved it originally we were planning destination wedding and then ended up changing our minds so I was very VERY glad we did. I also loved just going to get ideas and see things! even if you arnt using those vendors can give you some great ideas and things to look for in your area of choice 🙂

@MissXray: This one is in North St. Paul. I thought i could at least look at decor invites and fashion because I will be doing those things up here. The only thing is that I’d have to convince Fiance to go with me b/c my man of honor lives in Switzerland (in fact my entire side is guys, Fiance does have a groomsmaid though to balance it out a bit). I wanted opinions on it to see if it is worth it before I go through the effort of convincing him.

@Eckle: Meh, I’d go without.
I went to one bridal show before I booked my venue and I’m glad I only did one… I’m a bargain hunter and internet research does almost the same if not better than going to the fairs.
Also, it was very much reflective of the area in which it is held. All the vendors at the wedding fair i went to were local to about 30 miles and I think with your venue being 350 away, many would tack on a hefty surcharge for travel.
I would give it a miss… I think internet research and getting in your car to actually SEE/MEET your local vendors is better than a wedding show… you’ll get a more personalized meeting anyway and it won’t be all dreams and no reality.

I went to a local one and I’m having a Destination Wedding. Aside from ideas for cakes and bouquets I didn’t get much out of it since I can’t use the vendors anyway. Highlight was mimosas and cake samples with my girlfriends.

Probably not worth it. They are all local vendors, so you won’t be using them. No reason to go really. Unless you want to try to win a free dress or honeymoon. It would be boring to talk to all these people you couldn’t even use.
I think 1 or 2 bridal shows are okay, only if they are in the area you are getting married at and you haven’t done much planning. I’ve been to a few shows and I will only end up using 1 or 2 vendors I even saw at a show. Most vendors I hired I did not meet or find at a show. It can be ok as far as sampling some catering/cakes all in one place but that’s about it.
