I was considering the Ipod reception, because I need to save money. I don’t have any great equpiment. My friend, who is also going to officiate the ceremony free of charge, is a DJ. He offered to DJ my wedding at a discount price. I want to pay him if he does, of course I know equipment and his time shouldn’t be free and he is doing me a great favor already.
I just wonder if anyone didn’t have a DJ and wish they had? Of just in general were glad you did hire a DJ.

We had a DJ and I personally wouldn’t have considered not hiring one. Too many things can go wrong when you’re not dealing with a professional and just relying on a playlist. If your friend is offering to DJ at a discounted rate then you should definitely consider it if you can find the extra money. Honestly, if it came down to it I’d forego some of the flowers or even a course (like the salad, if you’re having a sit down dinner) in order to afford a pro.

@UpstateCait: Thanks for the response. I think you are right. I was telling my Fiance that it would take a lot of pressure off of us that day.

Our DJ has a lot of wedding experience and hes even there for us if something goes wrong. Hes a friend we work with in the winter and our discounted rate is awsome. We are paying him 400$ for 9 hours of work and we will also give him a gift certificate for a pottery painting place for some family fun (I love his son hes so cute). If its just backround music for a cocktail hour I say go for it but if its a typical reception then DJ all the way.

I would say it depends how big your wedding is. If it is over 100 people def go with a DJ and your friend sounds like a good fit to keep the price low. Our DJ made all the annoucements, put us in order for the grand entrance, and provided the microphone for the speeches. He also rocked the house! We are all huge dancers though so a good DJ was just as important as the food and drinks!

I was on the fence about getting one, but my sister highly recommended one. Hes super professional and has lots of good reviews. Our wedding is only 100 people, but my family is HUGE dancers, and it was one less thing to worry about. Expecially since if we just had a computer my dad would probley be messing around with it!

- Wedding: July 2012 - The Gables Inn, Santa Rosa, CA
I have been to 2 weddings this year, neither had a DJ and both were happy with their choice. We are going the ipod route for our wedding next month.
