How set on your date are you?  Is it an evening or daytime reception?  I grew up in SoCal, and I have to tell you that at the coast it is often cool at night, and we have been having what we call “May Gray,” which is basically fog at the coast.

The hottest, brightest months are actually often in August, September, and even sometimes October.  July should also be pretty safe.

That having been said, it is California.  If your guests are from out of state, they will be fine. If they are from San Diego, they may whine.

I personally think it would be fine, and you could always gets some blankets or shawls to put out in a basket for those who are cold.  The reality is most people here layer anyway.

I think it’ll be fine, you can always order a few heaters to put outside if it looks like the day is shaping up to be chilly.

I had my outdoor wedding in March 2011 in Fallbrook which is near Temecula. Darling Husband and I live near Beverly Hills and are used to LA weather. I went down to the venue March 2010 and it was really hot, upper 80’s, enough to make us kind of sweaty walking around the different properties. I was really worried our guests would melt into a puddle but glad it would be warm enough to be outside all evening.

Come March 2011,  the forecast is predicting rain and lower 60’s. It couldn’t have been more different than what we had thought it would be lol. I had made sure to get a tent just in case and I ended up ordering a couple more heaters for cocktail hour and inside the tent. We got last minute rainboots for my bridesmaids and although it was chilly outside, it was plenty warm inside the tent. We almost ordered cute clear umbrellas as well but it ended up not raining until late that night after we’d finished cleaning everything up.

Weather in LA is so unpredictable. Just look at this past week it’s been high 70s and low 80s and it’s supposed to be winter. If you are set on the date just make sure you have back up plans in case it rains and you’ll most likely need heaters at night.

I think May by the coast tends to be a bit gloomy and cold. My friend had a outdoor ceremony that weekend last year and we were freezing, (it was in Newport).  I think the weather is just too unpredictable that month.

If it was July-September I would say go for it.
