I think it works if you have some height. That dress looks great on you! Though the way you are standing is also perfect!!! Straight on shots can be so unforgiving, even in the perfect dress.

Im just under 5 feet, and I looked ridiculous in the mermaids. The fit-and-flare and modified a-lines were much prettier with my tiny stature and wide hips! I’m 33-26-38. ๐Ÿ™‚

is this a duplicate thread?  i thought i commented on this already but found another worded differently by OP.  here’s what i said there:D

not at all. i say try every style and take photos.  it will give you a good idea as to which is the best on your shape.  i wanted a ball gown or full a-line initially but the first time i tried on gowns the only ones available in plus size at the bridal shop were mermaid.  i was suprised by how much i didn’t hate the way i looked in them. another bee said i was pear shaped but i’d never thought so before that.  check out my pics for reference if you’d like. ๐Ÿ˜€

I agree height helps…I didn’t look so great in the a-lines or drop waist gowns..I felt like they kinda draped off my hips making me look big..kinda like gosh knows what I have under there…hehe

I dunno…I suppose everyone’s proportions are different. I have a love hate relationship with being “hippy”….it really depends on what I’m wearing..the right outfit..the hight heels…sometimes It works, sometimes it doesn’t.

So yeah, maybe ti’s not for every pear shaped girl..but it’s definetly not off limits in my opinion.

Psh, I think that dress looks great!

I tried on some mermaids, but like one of the PP’s, I’m rather short (5’2″) and even though they looked really lovely on my small frame, I just didn’t FEEL like a bride. I’m going tomorrow to go look at some A-lines instead.

I also think the asymmetrical skirt on that dress really helps with lengthening you. It draws the eye up and down instead of side-to-side at your hip. You look absolutely gorgeous in it. ๐Ÿ™‚

I am a pear (33-26-37) and I ended up getting a mermaid dress because it looked the best on me.

I think the reason why it worked (for me) is because I have broad shoulders so it didn’t look super unbalanced.

Just try nd see what looks best on you:)

@fresitachulita:  Aww please put the photo back? ๐Ÿ™‚ I am a definite pear who crazily chose a fitted mermaid style. Kind of regretting it and need some comfort..

I’m a pear (31-24-36) and while I don’t have my wedding dress yet, I have tried some on – and so far I greatly perfer the more fitted dresses on me. (Which is shocking, because I actually really don’t like my hips either!)

I’m a pear and my dress is mermaid- i think what helps is my dress has small little off the shoulder sleeves that gives the illusion that my upper body is larger and therefore more inproportion with my large hips:

I’m definitely a pear & I wore a very fitted mermaid. My grandma told me I looked like JLo, but I just took it as a compliment lol. I felt beautiful & sexy…it’s no secret that I have big hips, and I’m okay with that!

(Edited to a picture that actually shows the whole gown lol)
