I think it depends on HOW dramatic of a pear one is, and HOW fitted the gown is. It just varies!

Agree that the only body shape which should be somewhat wary with mermaids are larger apple-shaped girls. It’s really hard to say though because sometimes things which are supposed to look good on you, don’t and things which are wrong for you, look best!

i am going to do my very best to rock my curves in my dress so i can look as good as you!

i definitely see now that curves DO make mermaids look better! so relieved..

Go for it OP!! I am pear shaped but skinny… My bust is a 0/2 in dresses than a 4/6 hips. I may be small but I have curves!

Old DB dress I did not keep, its too big on top but fit well in the hips …. but ya curves from my kids:)

@bigcitybee:  Good point.  Proportion is everything in a mermaid gown.  If my chest was any smaller or my hips any bigger, or if I had a different dress on, it might not have worked.

I’m short (5’4″) and pear-shaped (36-27-42)…when I tried on some mermaid gowns way back when, they looked pretty fabulous, actually! It really depends on how low the dropped waist is.

@fresitachulita:  I wanted to see the pics!  I am a pear and I am in love with mermaid style!  A seamstress told me it actually looks better on someone with curves.  But as PP have said, you must try it on!  I am sure you will look fabulous!

@fresitachulita:  Seriously, you look HOT in that dress!  Not being funny!  But that is the way to rock a mermaid!  Go girl!

I think they look better on curvy shapes. The designer of my dress recognised this and my fishtail dress was came under a collection called ‘gorgeous with curves’

Just thought I’d report back here to say mermaids CAN look good on pears!! 🙂

I tried on this one that had a double corset – my hips have never looked better/smaller.. I dare say you can’t even tell I’m a pear in this 🙂

I sure hope not! That would be a problem for me with my wedding in 1 month!
