i didn’t get engagement pics, i didn;t even know it was a thing people did until long after we got engaged.  i consider the pics we took the night we got engaged and the morning after to  be our engagement pics.

You could. Depending on your photographer, you may be getting them really close to the wedding (or too late for the wedding if you wait much longer). If you didn’t have anything in mind to use them for the wedding in the first place, it might just be another expense for you at this point. You could always talk to you wedding photographer about it. 🙂

The only reason we are getting any form of “engagement pics” is because my best friend has an awesome camera and we thought it would be fun. To me, there is no purpose, and if I had to pay for them (other than the dinner she’ll get out of it) then they’d be a no-go. It’s up to you though, just letting you know not everyone thinks they’re necessary.

I don’t even know what to do with them other than scrapbooking and the ideas you posted above. If you’d done them last year you could have done them on a Christmas card or something, but that’s kind of out now. I dk, honestly.

90% of the time your photographer does it as part of your package.  Also, most photographer prefer to do an engagement shoot with you before the wedding to get to know you and your stye.

You should do it though.  If you don’t you’ll regret it.  Plus, it won’t be the same if you do it afterwards.  Also it’s just more fun decorating resources to use!

@AmeliaBedelia: We’ll be using ours for our website, our Save-The-Date Cards and our guestbook. 🙂 We probably wouldn’t have paid for them if our photog friend hadn’t given them to us as a wedding gift.

I think engagement pictures are definitely worth it. The wedding day pictures are about your wedding. When you look back on it, you think “what a great day”…as for engagement pictures, it’s more like “what a cute couple. They are so in love”. At least when I looked at my parents and older relatives engagement and wedding pictures, that’s how I felt.

You don’t need to get professional ones. You can DIY as some bees mentioned. Just getting some photos of you guys looking into each others eyes, etc, and it will be memorable. I doubt many couples have pictures like that normally.
