We have the diamond but we’re having the hardest time finding THE setting in the price range we’d like. I’ve always wanted a split shank cushion cut halo. Like so:
We’re having trouble finding one I like in a brick and mortar store and I just had a thought just now – is my finger too small for this style? Right now we have a 1.5 cushion cut. My finger is about a 5, maybe a 5.25 at most. We purposefully bought a light fancy yellow diamond so it would look like butter once set against a white halo. So…giving up the halo isn’t an option. But after we put on the halo do you think, given my finger is so small, would you not really see the split shank? I think it’s beautiful, but if you couldn’t really see it anyways is it really worth spending the extra money? If it’s basically going to be hidden I may as well settle on a single shank right? Here’s a pic of my hand with the stone as a reference if it helps.
If any of you have a 1.5 cushion halo, split or single shank, I’d love to see it! Let me know what you think. Thanks! 🙂

You should be able to see the split, although the ring will look on the larger size. I’ve got a split shank halo with a sapphire cushion that’s 6.8×7.2mm – so a little bigger than a 1.5 carat diamond (which should be about 6.5×6.5). My finger size is smaller than yours (4.5) and you can still tell it’s split shank.
Apologies if the photo turns out really huge – this is my first post! I normally just stalk the forums, but figured this was such a specific question I probably could be some help 🙂

I don’t have a picture right now, but my ring is 2ct total and it is a split shank halo. I have a size 6.5 finger, and it looks fine on my hand. I think you would be ok.

I have to post because that first pic looks almost EXACTLY like my ring! I have a 1.21 carat cushion cut diamond in a halo with a split shank, and my finger is a size 6, so just barely bigger than yours. If you go to a local jeweler (like I did) and get the ring custom made, you can have them “start” the split shank closer to the diamond, so you can see it more. Here are some pics:

@Mrs. Fireworks: Agreed, I was just about to recommend the placing of the split shank.Good idea.
My center diamond is a little over 2 carats (sorry oval not cushion cut) and I had to modify my splitting (and twisting) shank so that it was pretty obvious, otherwise it got lost on the side. A good jeweler will have techniques and options they can use to make the ring exactly as you want it, regardless of finger size.

While my husband and I were looking for an “upgrade” ring for our 20th anniversary, we had this exact problem. We finally decided that the split shank with the halo was just what we wanted and had it custom made. Finished product just picked up today. A 1.75ct Ring Bearer center with a cushion halo and split shank on my size 4.75 finger. I LOVE it!
Hope this helps…

@Gia8289: Thank you so much, I absolutely love it! The halo and band diamonds are approximately .013 carats each, a little over 1mm in diameter for each. 20 total diamonds on the halo and 44 total on the band.
I hope that helps!
