So I got engaged a few weeks ago and Ive been so happy and excited about life. I love my fiance and I love the ring he gave me. I think it is the perfect size. But I’m going to be honest, I’m a little discouraged. I was looking forward to sharing the exciting news and showing people my beautiful ring, but every one of my friends have said only one thing about it, “Oh, it’s huge!”
They literally say nothing else about it. Not that it is pretty or beautiful or anything. Just, it’s huge…..At first I was like, “Ok…..thanks?” and try to take it as a compliment, or, laugh and just say “I think it is perfect.”
But it’s been a few weeks now and now that all my friends have seen it, I’ve noticed that every single one of them have said the same thing and nothing else about it. Just, “oh. it’s huge!” And that’s it. It’s kind of….anticlimactic, I guess, haha.
Is my ring really that huge that it doesn’t deserve to be complimented? I know I could take “It’s huge!” as a compliment, but because that’s the only thing I’m hearing it’s just making me more and more self-conscious of its size (rather than me taking it is a compliment anymore). Every time someone comments that it’s huge my mind thinks, “Really?? Is it really THAT huge that every single person I meet needs to tell me??!” Ahhhhh!
I love the look of larger stones. I think it is beautiful and I know it’s my own opinion that matters. But I really thought at least some of my friends would think it is pretty…I’m sorry, I’m not out to look for compliments. AH! I’m just being selfish. I’m sorry! I just need people to put my self-consciousness to rest! 🙁
Here are pictures of my ring for reference: It is a 1 carat on a size 5 finger.

No! It’s perfect! Well, it’s big, yes..but in a good way!

Its not huge at all. Its average sized, but very pretty.

I definitely don’t think it’s huge, but I think it’s very lovely! Very classic, and I like that. 🙂

No! Its def not huge in a bad way or anything! Its the perfect size! Yes its a nice size & its not small but by no means is it so big it looks fake or unrealistic!

I really like it’s simplicity with the accent of the small stone in the profile. I don’t think that it’s auostentatious; it’s lovely.

I think that’s probably the best compliment they think they can come up with. Usually, what woman doesnt want a “huge” rock, so for them to say its huge is a good thing.

I think with solitaires people don’t really know what else to say! I have a solitaire and I think it’s beautiful but whatever, people just kind of look at it and say nothing or say “it’s classic.”

Personally, I don’t think it’s “huge”, but I also wouldn’t take that as an insult. I think people mean it as a compliment, sometimes it’s hard to come up with an appropriate reaction to seeing someone’s engagement ring. It looks lovely on you, so don’t worry!

It’s perfectly proportioned to your hands! With those long fingers, it looks gorgeous and not at all too big – it’s just right!

I don’t think it’s huge (I think of huge as like 3 carats and up). I do think it is absolutely gorgeous and perfect for your finger!

@sommertime: P.S. What types of rings do women in your work setting/social setting have? Maybe yours is a lot bigger compared to theirs. It’s all relative! I have over 2 carats, and someone once told me that mine was “tiny”!! People are going to say silly things for one reason or another. As long as you love your ring, that’s all that matters. 🙂

Trust me, some ladies on here have some HUUUGE rings. This is classic and beautiful, and looks great on your hand!

It’s beautiful. It’s a large stone relative to your finger (not too big though) and I guess they’re just impressed by the size and it’s they’re first reaction you’re getting, like “wow, look at that hug beautiful rock!” lol People with smaller stones get the awkward “Oh…it’s cute” comment, people aren’t always good at compliments, don’t take it to heart.
