Your ring is beautiful and classic and not too big at all. People made that comment to me a lot when i first got engaged (mostly people I knew) and mine is about your size. Now I only get comments from shop keepers and strangers about how beautiful it is…. it’ll be OK.. enjoy it!

No, it’s not TOO huge, it’s normal and VERY beautiful. It’s just right! It’s probably meant as a compliment, not to worry! If you love it, that’s what matters anyway. Mine is a 1.9 center diamond and I got jokes about “the Rock of Gibraltar,” and things like that, at first, but I just laughed. And I wear a size 4. I don’t let it bother me, I just say, “Thanks! Glad you like it.” And maybe your friends are jealous, you never know . . . either way, it’s a gorgeous ring and you should be proud.

@sommertime: I’ve seen photos of your ring on other boards and it’s the only one making me love a solitaire (Halo girl at heart)! I think it’s absolutely perfect– and I happen to think that 1ct is the perfect size, too. I agree with the comment that people probably think commenting on the size IS the ultimate compliment. They might think it’s obvious that it’s gorgeous, but not obvious that they think it’s big, too!

erm…i LOVE your ring. Its exactly what i want only with a radient or princess cut. And i want a 1crt on a size 6. I think its PERFECT.

I agree with all the other comments that I think it looks perfect on you.
When the first of my circle of girlfriends got engaged, she also got a 1ct diamond. We were all amazed at how big a 1ct diamond looked (and her fingers weren’t as small as yours) so I think it’s all in perspective. When my other friends were looking at rings, 1ct didn’t seem so big anymore.
I also agree that the setting makes the stone pop so I think that’s why it also looks big. Plus, all the focus is on the stone itself. Sometimes busy settings make the center stone look smaller (IMO).

not at all. my earrings and necklace are each one carat. by today’s standards, one carat seems almost average.

It’s beautiful and looks great on your finger! When I first started looking at rings/stones, I was surprised how big one carat is because I didn’t have a reference point before then. Maybe that might be factor?

Looks gorgeous on your hand, and definitely not ‘huge” at least…not something you should feel self consious about! 1 ct is average weight nowadays. mine is a little over 1.2 carats, but I have 7.25 sized fingers, so mine doesn’t always look overwhelmingly large. My fingers swell and “deflate” A LOT, so if my fingers are particularly thin looking, I’ve noticed the diamond looks a lot larger. Since your finger is small, it’s easier for the size to stand out. However, since my diamond is the size it is, and is such a high quality and bright diamond, I’ve noticed it does draw a lot of attention. I also notice when I look in the mirror just doing normal things that it does draw a lot of attention to itself, so I understand where you’re coming from. I’ve received the saem comments from some people–especially my mom, who was still saying “that diamond is amazing/huge” for a few months after our engagement, but I understand that the perspective sometimes makes it look different sizes/reflects light in a different way, etc. When I first got it, it actually made me a little uncomfortable as well, because I feel like it stood out. Most of all, I’m so happy and fortunate to have my e-ring already set with a 1.2 diamond. Not that I would ever find a reason to, but if I were to ever get it set in a different setting (it’s a classic solitaire), I know I have a exquisetly cut, high color quality, and large stone to add to whatever I want! My 1.2 ct solitaire may be a little more underwhelming than my friend’s e-ring…but up close, you see that hers is made up of lots and lots of little tiny diamonds, instead of one large stone. I’d choose the one large stone, any day.
And I agree with PPs…I didn’t realize what 1 ct looked like until I tried them on! almost 9 months later I’ll still look at my hand and be wowed!

Not huge 🙂 Mine’s 1 carat for a size 4.5 ring. I think it’s a complement 🙂

It’s beautiful and looks lovely on your hand. If you love it, don’t think twice about what anyone else thinks 🙂

Oh my goodness, all you Ladies are so wonderful! Thank you all for the lovely, kind, and supportive words! This is a true example of how wonderful you Bees can be! Thank you thank you thank you!!

My ring is the exact same size as yours (size 5 w/ 1ct solitare) and I did get alot of “its huge” YET, IMO a 1ct is very average?? So I was suprised to hear that people thought a 1ct was “huge.”
But, nevertheless, I do take “huge” as a compliment 🙂

I think the your ring is beautiful and the stone really glows. Your friends may be thinking it’s big for a diamond. Don’t let their comments get you down. They may be feeling a little jealous but that’s natural for us women.
I just got engaged and went thru a period of doubting whether my center stone was big enough! My friends made comments like “it’s perfect” and I took that moreso to mean it’s not too big.
The ladies that live in my area typically have 1ct or better. But mine is a half ct center (with halo), and 1 ct total weight. I picked it out, and had it been left up to my Fiance, he would have went with 1 ct or more and broke the bank! But I chose an elaborate setting and a modest stone because it fits my personality better. Had I went with Moissy I probably would have probably gotten something just like yours 🙂 It’s beautiful!

Mine’s 1.03 carat on a size 4 finger.
So It looks bigger than other people.
So its not that huge. It looks just perfect!

@sommertime: I’m also wearing a 1ct ring on a size 5 finger. I thought it was perfect for me, but I got the same “huge” comments, one friend told me, “every time I see it, it gets bigger!” I think some of the comments come from frame of reference (especially if you’re the first to get engaged like I am, it seems huge when its the first one you see on a friend!) Don’t feel self consious, I think they are trying to pay you a compliment, if you love it and think its perfect for you, then don’t worry at all!
