I’ve noticed that a lot of Vera Wang White dresses seem to be inspired by other Vera creations, the pricier ones from her flagship lines. Not knockoffs of her own stuff necessarily, but very similar looks with the net, the draping, the bias flanges, the petals – elements she’s working with a lot.
I wondered, has anyone seen another Vera (or really any designer dress) that might have inspired mine? I love how it feels really unique to me, but I do sort of wonder where it came from.
It’s VW351043, silk taffeta mermaid with pleats and bubble hem.

It would make complete sense that dresses by the same designer would have a similar aesthetic across lines. You might check out the rest of her lines to see if any of them look like your dress.

I agree that many of the White gowns are similiar to her flagship line gowns.
Case in point: VW Hayley versus VW White gown I can’t find # for.
After searching around, however, I couldn’t find a flagship dress similiar to yours! It seems like a combination of many elements from past season dresses, but then the bubble hem is completely different. Maybe she got the idea for your dress after 2012 gowns already came out? Its so different than the 2013 gowns and wouldn’t really fit in with that ‘look,’ so maybe she decided to make it anyways but for the White line. Does that make sense?
I think its gorgeous on you! Will you wear that sash?

I don’t know if it’s like her other dresses, but I just want to say I LOOOOVE this dress and I love it on you! What a great find. (Dang it Vera! Why weren’t you at DB when I was shopping? lol). Swoooon =)

@BooRadley: Thank you! i looked on Vera’s website and it only goes back to Fall 2011. I’m not sure when my dress came along at DB (I wasn’t really looking till I got engaged in January of this year!) but I didn’t see anything quite like it.
I’m doing a grosgrain ribbon sash, but not the blush after all. I’ve got all my accessories picked out finally, so I need to do a picture post to show you guys the whole look. Been slacking on that.
@thimble: Thanks! I love it so much too.
@MissDragonfly84: You know, I thought of Ethel too because it’s so similar in shape, but Ethel has all the soft organza flanges at the bottom and mine is that crispy taffeta with sharp pleats (it looks a lot sharper when pressed!).

The shape is what made me think of it as soon as I saw your dress:) The bottom is definitely different and very pretty! Similar idea to the Ethel but different enough so that people wouldn’t necessarily see the similarities.
It’s gorgeous on you!
