Ummm.. I would make sure she gives you a FULL budget, with every little detail on it as an outline so you know what you need to stick to. The numbers sound a little high to me.

Not saying she is doing this, but be wary of high price vendors that she tries to push on you.. Many vendors will give like a 10-15% kickback to planners that recommend them. As a wedding planner, I think that is shady practice and I won’t do it.

@MissMeowMeow:  If you aren’t comfortable with the way she is budgeting your wedding budget, I would sit down with her and go over a list of the expenses she has down so far and go through it item by item. The last thing you want is to go way over budget and not have enough to cover your wedding. I would be explicit with her about your budget limitations if that is what you want. As a wedding planner, she should be looking out for your best interests and if she is a good one she will be willing to work with you. And if not, I would find another wedding planner! Good luck and happy planning! =)

Over half your budget for music and flowers?? No I wouldn’t be comfortable either. I agree with the PP, she might have certain vendors she works with to make extra money. Does this wedding planner have good reviews?

Yikes! I’m sorry you’re having to deal with that. I almost can’t believe she won’t offer up any other solutions. There are usually small things to cut or scale back on, and there are always other bands and florists To suggest. As long as you are open minded, I don’t see why she wouldn’t be at least a bit more helpful In terms of your options. Try doing a little research on your own and see if you can find anything you like. The florist price seems pretty average to me, but the band…not so much. Good luck with it all! I hope she will pull through for you!

Of course it depends on your location and what flowers you get, but over $6k for flowers seems high for a wedding less than 100 people. That band quote doesn’t sound super high because bands can be like $1k per piece/band member.

No that’s crazy.  No wedding planner should tell you to “just” add 10k to your budget.  Tell her before you book those vendors you need her to give you an itemized budget that incudes those expenses within your total budget if she truly thinks it’s possible.
