Our venue does state that people wearing jeans will not be allowed to enter.  It’s a golf club, so I think that rule goes for all of the club’s functions.  I know I have some family members who don’t have a nickel to their names, and if they show up in jeans, well then so be it.  I won’t kick them out.  I’d think that they could at least borrow a nicer outfit, but honestly, they’re adults and I don’t get to tell them how to dress :/  It will reflect on them, not on me, so I just decided this is one of those things Im not going to stress about.

That person is going to feel very uncomfortable when they realize everyone else if dressed up and they are in jeans. I mean, for $10 at a thrift store they can find pants and a button down! I think your Fiance should go back to him and let him know that everyone else will be dressed up.

I agree with you, it’s not that difficult or expensive, at all, to get a pair of khakis and a nice shirt.  I wouldn’t want someone showing up at my wedding wearing jeans at such a nice venue, they’d look so out of place.

Hold the phone — are there seriously people in the world who DON’T OWN any other pants except jeans?!? How have they lived their entire life without ever needing to wear something different???????

I find it hard to believe that a grown man doesn’t have a pair of khakis shoved in the back of his closet that he could wear for a night. Even if he doesn’t, go to WalMart and buy a pair for $15. It’s not that hard.

As for the whole jeans thing, I specifically put a note about jeans on our website but thought that I was just being overly cautious and that no one would actually wear jeans to our formal wedding. Well, my ex step dads brother shows up in jeans. They were nice jeans (no holes or faded patches or anything) but still jeans. I was a bit peeved for like a second but then I totally forgot about it. If anything, he just looked like a jerk to the rest of our guests when they were in suits and he was in a pair of levi’s. It’s not the end of the world if it happens.

It’s not hard to get something nice at Target or even a thrift store. I go to thrift stores when I need something dressy! I don’t want my family and friends to spend an arm and a leg to look nice, but I do expect something more than jeans and a T-shirt. I would feel terrible as a guest knowing I was going to an affair looking too “everyday casual” with jeans!

Maybe I am from a different land…called Small Town Midwest…but I guess I don’t understand why you care if other people wear jeans.

@missrobots:  I think it’s because jeans are considered “casual wear” and her wedding is on the more formal side.

I understand that jeans are casual, but one person wearing jeans, because that’s what they are comfortable wearing or what they can afford to wear, isn’t going to make your wedding less formal. Most people don’t wear jeans to weddings, even in my area, but a few do…and they usually do take care to put on a fancier pair of boots to go with them! Laughing

@missrobots: Jeans aren’t appropriate for formal weddings. If someone is attending the (hopefully) once in a lifetime event for their loved one that costs thousands of dollars, they really should put forth the effort to wear something a bit more presentable than what they’d normally rock to go to the movies in.
