@MadameLady:I feel your pain!  I have made a large spreadsheet of all of the things that I want and now I can just take my time finding the best deals on things.  I also find setting priorities/timelines to my to-dos helps.  That way I know what to focus on now vs 6 months from now.

I went to a non-traditional bridal expo last weekend, and every vendor I spoke to was thrilled that I was looking for photog/videog/DJ already.  We’ve been getting the ‘major’ things out of the way, so that I can focus on more DIY without the stress of rushing!

@MadameLady – for the venues, just make sure you have a backup in mind.  If you have to hold off until August there’s a chance that other brides will try stealing your date before you get the chance to book!

oooh yay other August 2012 brides!  I too already have WEDDING FEVER!  WEll guess what ladies, now we are only a year and a half out from our weddings!!!  Some people in my family are thinking that I’m crazy with all my planning already but a year and a half will fly by, especially with all of the DIY projects I have in mind!   I’ve already lost sleep over this.. I call it.. wedding insomnia!  so many exciting ideas.

so what things are you working on at this point, a year and a half out?

I too am starting to think about the save the dates..  I think it’s good to get them out around 14 months in advance.  I figure we have our date set and we should let people know, especially so someone else doesn’t schedule their wedding for the same weekend!

Have any Aug 2012 brides already gotten their Save The Dates out?  Any DIY projects you can share?

It’s okay.  Set a goal to get it all done 5 months ahead of time.  You won’t be stressed and you’ll be able to enjoy the parties and the showers!  Plus, by planning, you can take advantage of sales when they happen!

@vintagerusticrock: No Save the Dates yet.  I was also thinking earlier because ours is semi-destination, but maybe around October/November.  I get nervous about doing it earlier than the 1 year mark because I’m afraid people will not see that the date is NEXT year..haha.  Even my own sister got mixed up even though I told her the year. I sent her our website(with the date in large text on the home page) and she called me trying to make plans for this summer 2011.

I haven’t received many Save-The-Date Cards though so maybe it is more common to do it further out?  What is your experience?

I’m a June 2012 bride, but I have been totally bit by the wedding planning bug! We’ve booked our photographer and reception venue. We will either get married at his church or mine, and neither (especially mine) book up quickly. My uncle will be one of our officiants (and since he’s the head of our church, he can hold the date, even if someone else wants to do something at that time).

I have spent the day, researching ideas. I found a dress that I love (well, I found this earlier), but I’m waiting until at least March to go try it on. I want to lose a little more weight before I start trying on things. I found a possible bridesmaid’s dress, I sent a pic of it to my sister. We have ideas for favors, and I’m trying to gather ideas for bridal party gifts. I’m definitely looking at the more fun aspects of planning right now!

I also have major wedding fever. I picked and ordered our wood STD (we are having a country vintage wedding). We put the deposit down on the venue. I bought all my milk glass and blue mason jar vases. Picked colors. And started getting stuff for the escort cards. I really want to get a lot of planning while I’m still in school. I graduate in June with my Master’s and hopefully will have  job after that and be more busy than I am now. I just help it…its so fun!

I do love planning.. even though it’s a bit early.  We got engaged last August and time has been flying by since so I am fine with getting the major planning and DIYs out of the way this winter!

We booked our venue, I bought a dress and we are pretty sure we known which photographer we will be using.  I keep flip flopping about colors!  I am thinking about trying to make the tulle wedding poms sometime soon to see if I like them.  Also, I wish I could decide on having a bridal party or not!

Yay! More excited people!!! No Save-The-Date Cards yet – we haven’t got the date or venue yet, but they’re definitely in the process. And I blog where I ramble about random wedding-type stuff 🙂

@Chandon:I have run into the same issue where everyone keeps thinking our wedding is THIS August even though I keep reminding them — 2 summers from now! …. personally I like receiving STD’s early in the mail from other couples so that I have it on my calendar and don’t make other plans.  I know that some people may think we are sending ours out too early but I’m going to start working on ours this spring and send them by May… there are many other friend/family getting engaged and I want everyone to be well aware of our date that we already have set!

Does anyone else think 14-15 months prios is a good time to send STD’s or is that ‘too early’ ?
