Fiance and I will be getting married at sunset in May. The time, and the colours are the only thing he’s completely put his foot down for. He has his heart set on plum and silver for our colours, but I was wondering if that seems a little dark for the time (both spring, and late afternoon/early evening)? I was thinking we could add in some brighter, more spring-like florals to jazz it up a bit.. but, I’m a very visual person, and can’t seem to put it all together.
The only picture I’ve found to sort of give me some inspiration is this one (the purple is different, though):
What do you think? Can plum/bright colours be pulled off for spring?

My only thought when I read this was that plum would be not so great if it was a day wedding. But, I think that color combo would be very nice at sunset time, no matter the season. 🙂 So, go for it. In my opinion.

Plum is a pretty color year round. I love the inspiration pick. You can always use a lighter shade of purple or brighter color to liven it up a bit.

Plum is one of my colors and I’m marrying in October. I’m pairing it with copper to make it fall-y. I think you can pull it off for May for sure, You could always pair another springy color with it as a compliment, like light yellow or pink which would go well. You could use lighter colored bouquets to tie it all together.

@brighteyedgirl: I think plum would be gorgeous at a sunset and evening wedding ceremony and reception respectively. The silver would add a little shine and can also be a nice neutral. As an accent color in flowers and whatnot, you might consider a soft butter yellow, or even a sage green.

Plum is very elegant. It would look beautiful next to a white or ivory dress no matter what time of year.
You could even pull in other shades of purple, lighter lavender or liliac to soften it.

Thanks so much for your input, ladies–I don’t know why I’m being so anal about it, but I guess it means more to me than I originally thought, lol.
I found this pic as bouquet inspiration, and did a bit of (crummy) Photoshop magic to see what it would look like with plum dresses:
Not too bad, I suppose. Thanks for your suggestions, too.. I’l try a few combos, and see what sticks. :]

@brighteyedgirl: We’re doing plum and silver for our wedding and it’s in August, which is still a summer month. I think that the colors bring out the personality of both you and your Fiance and even if it’s not in season, do what your heart wants! 🙂

Oh I love plum no matter what season! You could use a light pink/cream/light purple bouquet with a silver wrap. Silver shoes, use silver vases or candle holders? Here’s one inspiration picture I found, it looks like it might have been a sumer wedding? I love the idea of light colored flowers w/dark Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses and a darker bouquet for the bride (that’s what I did so I’m partial haha!)

who says you have to use seasonal colors? It’s your wedding. Do whatever colors you want!

@Mrs.SplatterPaint: That’s my thoughts. I’m doing black and white for my May wedding. I don’t care if it’s dark, we’re going to make it look gorgeous!

We did a dark purple (similar to plum) with light blue and green for our July wedding, and it was beautiful! You just have to pair it with the right colors.

@Mrs.SplatterPaint: I love that philosophy! It’s totally what I went with for mine too! 🙂

You’re all missing the point!!!! She has a Fiance with an oppinon on something! LOL I am having an August wedding with eggplant and chrome. We chose eggplant, it is a grown up purple. Purple is the color for Mental health and my Fiance heads up a Suicide Prevention Initiative as the Medical Examiner. Pair is up with some lovely liliac and light pink and you are set! My insirational cupcakes to “lighten the darkness” and my bouquet inspiration.
