- Wedding: June 2012
My wedding is on the same weekend as an event at the local University. I work for said University and checked the date of the event last December before we set our date. Well, it seems the date was changed.
When I realized what was happening, I quickly called a few hotels. The old, nasty Residence Inn wanted $225 per night. Their rooms aren’t updated and this is Central Virginia, not a major city.
The Hampton Inn’s rates started at $199 per night.
These rates are clearly in place for the reunion at the University. Doesn’t it seem insane to pay $200+ for those brands of hotel?
Thankfully, a regional sales rep for Marriott told me that the Courtyard by Marriott is going to be rennovated this year and will be relatively new when my wedding comes around. The rates: $119 for regular rooms and $159 for suites.
Still, I’m upset by how the other hotels are price gouging. It just doesn’t seem fair! I contacted Marriott International and they are looking into it, but I doubt anything will come of it…there’s demand and they are taking advantage of it. That’s totally legal, right?
