So I located a seller with a Maggie Sottero Michelle dress size 10 with a corset back in diamond white. This lady lives about 2 hrs away (I was willing to drive to her) and told me that she would send additional pics of the dress before we met for me to make the purchase. THIS LADY HAS HAD ME ON HOLD FOR TWO WEEKS!!! Yesterday, I went to a bridal boutique, tried on an Allure dress that made my daughter, my mom, and my Maid/Matron of Honor tear up (the first time EVER) and I put the dress on layaway (50% non-refundable may I add…since I have about 11 months before the big day anyway). I woke up this morning to a “sorry I haven’t been in touch” email from the seller of the MS Michelle dress of my DREAMS!!! She says she still wants to meet, but I also must add that she STILL has not included any additional pics of the dress! I cried for about an hour after that!!! I have also included my telephone number for her to call me in SEVERAL emails to her over the course of a couple of weeks…and she has yet to actually CALL me.
Should I continue to go back and forth with this lady over this dres…or is she maybe “playing around” with me??? I only have two days to figure this out (as the bridal boutique is willing to work with me to possibly use my 50% down payment towards alterations, cleaning, and storage of my used dress, and a few other things)!!! 🙁

Can’t u call her? If it’s your DREAM dress drive there and knick on her door, you don’t have that much to lose.

I would just consider that you might have to deal with further flaking-out through the rest of the sale. If there’s a question but you still want to proceed, I would try to recover/redirect your deposit from the shop asap, and then spend some time chasing down your dream dress.
You didn’t say how you felt about the Allure compared to the dream dress?

It does seem to me that she’s playing around, although it makes no sense why someone would do that. I actually had the same experience with two different sellers when I was looking for a used dress and it was extremely frustrating. Neither one of them panned out and I ended up buying a new one elsewhere. It makes you wonder why they would even play games like that, but people do.

Have you actually tried Michelle on? You may end up hating the way it looks on you.
Honestly if you’re happy with the Allure I would just go with that. Sometimes dealing with resellers/individuals is more pain than its worth.

She hasn’t listed nor has she given me a phone number. 🙁 (Red flag…right?)
I tried on the Alfred Angelo 1136 which is VERY similar. I was just trying to keep the costs down by buying used…but the new Allure dress I put on layaway yesterday was $50 more than the used one I was trying to get from this other seller…so maybe that means something.
It’s crazy…and you’re right…some people just make a process harder than it has to be! 🙁
I love the look of the Allure dress (it has a built-in corset!) but it was missing the the beading on the skirt part (I’m new at wedding dress lingo).
Does anyone know of a good website with glass beading kits or something? I could MAKE the Allure dress the dress of my dreams if it comes down to that! 🙂

Selling and buying things over the internet from individuals is a total crapshoot. People are flakey. They stop communicating and drop off the face of the planet. Have you ever dealt with Craigslist? Same deal.
Don’t waste a 50% deposit on a different dress. Your post-wedding self will be PISSED that you wasted all that money for a dress you are wearing for 8 hours.

Also, you put down a deposit on another dress, so you were already getting over the Maggie. Just because she’s back in touch doesn’t mean you still need to be interested. You sort of made your decision by putting the deposit on the Allure.
Edit: regarding you poll, I don’t know if she’s playing games or not, but I still wouldn’t wait around for it and lose my deposit.

You know what? Today…YOU ARE THE VOICE OF REASON!!!! 🙂 Thanks for the encouragement!!! 🙂

I chose the “maybe” option, but just from my own recent experiences I would go with the Allure. I personally am getting really tired of people not returning simple phone calls or emails unless they actually have a good reason.
IF you want to keep an open mind and she contacts you, I’d simply tell her the deal. “I understand you may be busy and haven’t had the chance to respond to my emails and requests for pictures before I drive 2 hours to meet you. This dress is my dream dress, but honestly at this point I’ve had to consider other options, and I’d need to negotiate a lower price to make it worth my while.
And see if she bites the bullet. Who knows…maybe if you’re a bit tougher on her maybe she’d sell it cheaper and it might be worth losing your other deposit if you liked it that much?

Good point! I was just going to give her until tomorrow morning to respond. If she doesn’t, then I’ll just stick with the Allure and let her know that’s it’s been nice playing e-mail tag with her but I’m no longer interested. Maybe this is a lesson I have to learn about changing my mind so much.

It doesn’t sound like she’s serious about selling. If I wanted to sell my dress, and I had an interested buyer, I’d be doing everything possible to make sure I sealed the deal. Her actions make no sense. Maybe she doesn’t even have the dress. Honestly, who knows.
I would forget about buying the dress from her, commit to the dress you put the deposit down on, and not look back.

Thanks! You know…I’m being told the same thing by some of my friends. I’ve basically told this lady that I would buy the dress from her with the small spots caused by normal wear and tear of the dress (without even KNOWING if cleaning would remove them) and she managed to still drag her feet about it. I’m leaning more towards the Allure dress I already have on hold instead of the MS Michelle every minute! 🙂
