My wedding is in 2 weeks and I always intended to walk down the aisle to Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s version of “Somewhere over the rainbow”. When I youtubed the song it seems an extremely popular choice. So, I guess what I’m asking is, have you been to a wedding featuring this song? I would prefer to choose something a little more original if this song is frequently played at weddings.

I have never been to a wedding with that song, I think it is a great choice! And if it is what you have always wanted to have playing, and you still want it, I wouldn’t let its popularity stop you.

ne11y23: I have been to one wedding that did this. But that’s out of 5 or 6 weddings in the past year.

I agree that I should keep it if I love it, but I think even I’m starting to get a bit sick of it!! Or maybe I’m just overthinking everything about my wedding (because I am). Suddenly all my choices don’t seem quite so amazing! I will see what other bees have to say. Thanks for commenting.

Play what you want at your wedding. I have always been hellbent on not playing anything that’s remotely popular for aisle walks, but am going to end up walking to “The Book of Love” just because it’s sentimental.
It’s your day! Who cares if it’s been played before?

ne11y23: I’ve never heard that song played at any of the weddings I’ve attended, so I def wouldn’t consider it over done. I like his version of this song, but it always makes me sad, so it would feel like a bit of a downer to start the ceremony with it. If you love it, go for it. No one will care

ne11y23: If you love that song, go for it. I am walking down to a medley of somewhere over the rainbow and I’m yours by straight no chaser. Take a listen maybe you will like it, and it’s much less well known. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xisCu5u6kvQ

We played that at our reception, but I’ve never been to another wedding where it was played.

Swizzle: Ha! I’m a cellist so Canon in D is BANNED from my life! I had to play it every week through all my years at school. It is a beautiful song though.

I went to a wedding where this song was the first dance. It was nice and different.

ne11y23: I went to a wedding where this was the song they walked out to after the wedding. I think it’s totally fine to use. Our DJ suggested it to us, but I didn’t end up using it.

ne11y23: lol its a lovely song, but every time i see a girl walk down the aisle to it i just roll my eyes. There are a million songs to choose. I walked down to lovely acoustic version of “Somebody to Love” by Queen!! it was very me.

We used it for our father-daughter and mother-son dance. I think it’s a great song for walking down the aisle!
