Hello, maybe someone can give me some more info.
This has been my first cycle charting, and I just noticed that I may be spotting for 4-5 days before my period. There is no way that I’m pregnant.
Due to my age (36), I’m concerned that this spotting is a bad sign for my fertility. I’ve read conflicting reports on whether it is normal or not.
My chart seems to indicate that I ovulated. How serious is spotting before a period? Does it mean I may have low progesterone? Thanks!

It could mean a hormonal imbalance, yes. Have you had your blood work run? Are you taking anything, like vitex? That can make you spot.

I (28) have this spotting since I got a contraceptive coil (when 23), have my blood checked regularly and everything is fine.

Thanks. I’ve had some bloodwork done more than a year ago, but it wasn’t to check for fertility. It was normal then. I’m taking a pre-natal which has B vitamins. I wonder if that could affect my cycle. The spotting was very minor, just a faint tinge of pink when wipping, but it was definitely there.
Thanks for the info. A lot of people seem to have this issue with normal bloodwork.
I will have to see my doctor to get some bloodwork done. I’ll report back when I have results.

I spot 3-4 days before my period. And I’m currently pregnancy with my third, so it can be fine. The biggest issue is if you’re spotting before implantation is possible then your hormones (progesterone) are too low to give the fertilized egg a chance. But you can take progesterone and do things to lengthen your LP. Read taking charge of your fertility. It explains everything.

It’s possible it’s part of a larger issue. But it’s also completely possible that it’s nothing to worry about or something that requires a minor fix. Since you are 36, just keep up the charting and if you’re not pregnant in 5 months then schedule an appointment with an RE if you hit 6 months. Hopefully you won’t need to, but if you do you will be prepared.

the cycles when you got your BFP did you spot then as well? Should I count myself out when I start spotting on 11 dpo?

I am currently 23 weeks and had a miscarriage before this pregnancy. I use to spot 4 – 5 days before my period and my doc was concerned. I tried acupuncture and it cleared it up and I got pregnant with this baby on that cycle.

I always spot for about 5 days before my period. I used to consider it ‘warning shots’ so I knew to start wearing pads lol.
it took me 2.5 years to get pregnant. No doctor, blood test, fertility specialist seemed conserned.
The cycle when I got pregnant, I didn’t spot … it was my first clue.

I used to spot before my period and realized it was because of low progesterone. Stress zaps progesterone. I made it a point to lower my stress and provide more nutrition for my body to make progesterone and now I don’t spot anymore. Low progesterone can cause luteal phase defect.

Hi there. I am 37 and had a simliar issue. I got off of the pill in June and would have spotting with each cycle 2-3 days before my period. It never happened to me while I was on the pill. I was already seeing an RE because of a low AMH test before I got off the pill (which has since thankfully gone back up to normal, since coming off of the pill). I mentioned the spotting to her and she put me on progesterone suppositories that I start using 4 days past a positive ovulation test each month. She said that it was to help prevent the spotting from interfering with implanation. My last cycle was the first time I used it and I had no spotting. I think it would be good to mention this to a doctor, even before you have tried to conceive six months.

This happens to me occasionally, including during my cycle before I got my BFP. I wouldn’t panic about it, but I’d mention it to your doctor.
