I have only ever met boys with the name Riley. I haven’t ever seen it used for a girl.

MsTrulove22 :  I never knew Riley was a name for a girl until one of my friends named her daugher Riley. I grew up with a boy named Riley, so I always thought it was a boys name. Nobody ever questioned him on having a girls name, as far as I know. He was actually the first boy I had a major crush on.. Haha!

It can go either way – I know a guy named Riley and a girl named Riley.

Riley was the worst on Buffy so I say for girls on that principal alone.

It might just be the part of the country I’m from. but I teach, and I’ve never had a boy named Riley – only girls. When asking my own children (ages 14, 16 and 18), they immediately identify it as a girls’ name.

I actually think of it immedately as a dogs name, because I know mulitiple people with dogs named Riley.

My son has a girl riley in his class, and an old coworker of mine has a daughter named riley, so i’d say it’s more of a girl name than boy. I prefer it for a girl.

I was going to answer ‘girls name’ but that’s just my opinion. According to baby center, Riley as a girl’s name is #39 as a boy’s name it’s #258.

Personally, I’m not a big fan of unisex names, but that’s up to you. Baby Center has some good suggestions of names that are like Riley:

    slomotion :  lol – wasn’t he such a sap..

MsTrulove22 :  I’d say both, but I would prefer it for a girl and I think of it more as a girl’s name.

I too think of Reilly as the male spelling of a unisex name. I’ve seen more girls with Riley.
