i have been told that if you want a boy, to have sex on the day you ovulate because boy sperm are faster swimmers but die sooner, so when the egg is avaliable straight away the boys are stronger so make it there quicker, whereas if you want a girl, to have sex 4-5 days either side of ovulation because they are slower swimmers but live longer – therefore by the time the egg is avaliable the boys would have died and its free for all the girls – LOL. is this a myth ?? has anyone tried this and succeeded?
my friend who told me this said her sisters tried this and were both very accurate – one having a girl and one having a boy. might be something to this, or might just be a coincidence?
tbh were not worried about what we have for our first baby, but id be interested to see if anyone has heard of this or tried it ?

@nearlymarriedlass: I have heard of it, and even bought the book. No idea if it really works. My cousing SWEARS by it. I haven’t personally tried it though, however based on what my LO turns out being I will probably “try” for the opposite the next time. 🙂

you get a 50/50 chance each time.
women produce XX, men produce XY. xx is girl, xy is boy, yy (not possible) is boy.
make a pundit square.
the egg survives 12-36 hours after ovulation, sperm can live up to 4-5 day days.
so best sex for baby making is 4 days prior to O up to ovulation.

@nearlymarriedlass: These are tales! It’s called SELECTIVE REDUCTION if you want to ensure you have a boy or a girl (aka an abortion).

Waiting until ovulation day actually reduces your chances of conceiving.

I believe that if you strictly follow the Shettles Method – and there’s more to it than just sex on certain days prior to ovulation – you can increase your chances of having one sex over the other. But nothing is foolproof, and at the end of the day you’re going to get what you’re going to get.

I don’t think it’s possible to do it naturally, no. I believe if you do IVF you can though (to limit genetic deformalities that are particular to one sex or the other).

@nearlymarriedlass: I think you can definitely use the Shettles method to sway your chances a bit but don’t be upset if it doesn’t work. You’re also dealing with dad’s sperm and some men produce more Xs than Ys or vice versa.

@LilRhodyGem: oh sounds terrible!
@kate02121: yea totally true
@beachbride1216: thats very true. all up to the male 🙂

Well, pear-shaped women, more conventionally attractive couples, and effeminate (i.e., delicate) featured men will have a higher chance of having girls.
Apple-shaped women, more “rugged,” masculine looks couples, will have a higher chance of boys.
However, chance is still a huge factor and lots of “rugged” couples have only girls and lots of “delicate” couples have only boys.

@nearlymarriedlass: I have heard this as well.
I have had friends, do the chinese birth chart, eat certain foods to get a boy, only have sex on the first day of ovulating to get a boy and also only doing doggie style to get a boy lol
They all got boys…
Although that doesnt mean it necessarily worked…but i plan on doing all those things bc i want a boy first then a girl
PPl dont realize how lucky they are when they have one of each….a boy and a girl

@BrideToBe14: i know right!!!!! all my good friends parents, and i mean ALL of them have had a girl first then a boy,including my own parents. so weird. so i thought it was quite common until my friends started having babies – 2 boys here, 2 girls there……
@ceebree: interesting! thanks!! 😀

Shettles method is a bunch of bunk in my mind. My baby boy can attest to that since DH and I only BDed on O-4 and O-6 in the cycle we conceived. And my ovulation date is solid due to OPKs
ETA: Chinese gender chart said girl for us.
