Hi Bees, I’ve been looking at hotels for potential room blocks, mostly around downtown LA, for the weekend of Oct 10th. The prices have increased significantly since I first checked them a couple months ago. One of my over-eager guests already called one of the hotels to book a room and was told that they were already nearly booked for that weekend. Is this possible? Does anyone know if there is some big sporting or other event on that weekend that I should be worried about?
For any of you who have booked rooms in LA, how far in advance did you reserve the block? How much of a discount should I expect off the normal online advertised price?

That’s 10/10/10 right? So many weddings that weekend. In fact, I’m going to one 🙂 Not sure of any other event that weekend…

Well, it’s not football because both USC and UCLA are playing in the Bay Area that weekend.
I set up our wedding block almost as soon as I got the venue secured. And almost no one has used it because they actually dropped the price online after that. Plus, my future SIL works for the hotel chain and managed to get her super discount rate on six rooms for their family.

Here are a few small events that weekend: Oktoberfest, Latino Book Festival, The Official Twilight Convention in Anaheim, and the Hollywood Collectors and Celebrity Show.
The only thing I can think of is it is October, which means fabulous weather, and a lot of schools in other states go on their Fall Break that week.

The Monday following your wedding is Columbus Day… so maybe a lot of people doing a 3-day weekend??
I just put a block on mine last week and the discount ranged from 30-50 dollars off the internet prices I found. Have your discounts been similar?
