Hmm I’ve never heard of any hardfast rules about this. I think it’s really about personal preference. I’ve been keeping a mental tally for years of songs that I love and would some day like to play at my wedding!  I love "Heavenly Day" by Patty Griffin as a first dance song.

Ha ha, me too Miss Marine! I agree, I don’t think there is a formal process. I think typically the bride chooses but obviously if your Fiance has strong feelings one way or the other you will want to take his choices into consideration and come up with something you both love.

we’re going to do "so Beautiful" by Paul Murry, an Ozzie ballad, we’re long-distance so he would send me his favorite songs on skype, and this was one of them; plus if his best friend can make it from Australia we’ll have him sing it to us live with guitar, it’ll be awesome

It depends on your venue and personal preference. (For instance, if you have a ceremony strictly in the tradition of your religion or culture, you may only select music that fits.) I think it’s great fun when a couple chooses something that reflects them — even if it is choosing traditional music!
