Ok, so we have been engaged since Feburay 2011 and our wedding is May 2013. I have been looking at wedding stuff well before our engagement so it is safe to say that I have done the legwork. I have been picking up little things for DIY projects that I have in mind. I have my programs done and the paper picked out. I am not doing too much DIY but I plan on doing the card box, menus, and other reception essentials. I am still 14 months away from our big day but I am itching to start something!!
What is too early to start DIY projects?

Yes and No. I started DIYing about 12 months ago. What I will say is that it was nice to have some projects done awhile ago, but the other side is that sometimes you will change your mind and then that’s a waste of time and resources. So my advice is to make sure that you REALLY want that project and you are sure that is how you want it done before you do it!

It’s not too early for some things. You can start working on anything that doesn’t have specific details/ information it. Wait on things like menus, programs, invitations etc.. but you could certainly make the card box and other decor.

I don’t think it’s too early. I’m also getting married May 2013 and started doing and buying a bunch of things. Have you already booked your venue, photographer, florist, or make-up artist? Researching locations and meeting with potential vendors may keep you busy for a little while. It is for me! I also started working on my sash for my dress.

I’m getting married in June 2013 and have been gathering ideas for everything right now so i know what i want to do for everything. Shopping around for prices so i know what i want to do and how much it will realistically cost.
But you’re at the point now where you can start planning for everything else too…
People tell me “oh you still have time” yea well knowing me it’ll be the day before my wedding and i still won’t have something done. I’d rather be done 6 months early then panicing the night before!

honestly i would rather do my projects early and get them over with, but my fiance is the one who is making me wait. He thinks i might change my mind on something and just wasted my time and money do something for our wedding that we couldnt use. I think your a little far out there to be worrying about that now, But hey if you finished everything now you will have nothing to worry about for a year. lol

I am with the other ladies. As long as you are sure about what you want, GET IT STARTED. I am the worlds BIGGEST procrastinator. My wedding is November 2013 and my list of DIY’s includes 25 things at least. I thought I would be able to take my time and do like 1 thing every month but that’s not gonna happen. I still work full time plus all the overtime I can get. If I dont start now I’ll never get finished. I think that you know you best. Are you firm in your decisions? How much time are you gonna have to get things done without feeling like you are under the gun? How much help are you going to get from outside sources, everybody says that they are going to help until you start pulling out the glue guns. There is no such this as too early as I see it.

I personally feel like it’s never to early to get started. Time flies by and the next thing you know you don’t have time ti finish projects. But only start a project if you feel 100% sure you are going to use it. You don’t want to go to all the trouble and then not even end up using it…

@happybbbeee: Yes. We booked the photographer, DJ, venue, and florist. I haven’t looked at the makeup artist yet but I could focus on that.
@Kate0558: I agree completely. Someone said the same thing but I am not a last minute person. It’s just not my personality.
@TheHotMrsG: You make a great point. I can make a decision and stick with it. So I guess it is good to start my projects now. Plus, I will be free with school for the next 6 months. I need to do as much as I can because once I start business school in Sept. I won’t know what my schedule will look like. My semester will end like 2 weeks before the wedding, so it makes sense to get the major things done while I have the free time.
