Super random question: My boyfriend has two brothers. So obviously when I marry him, they will become my brother-in-laws. So I guess my question is..When they get married, would all the girls become each other’s sister-in-laws? I ask because I don’t feel like that would accurately describe our relationships because none of us would “technically” be related.
I posted this in the bridesmaid section because one of his brothers is getting married soon and I’m in the wedding. I’m just curious because once I’m engaged, I would like to know if that would make us FSILs!

Yep. Your FI’s brothers wives are your SILs.

I agree, they would be your SILs 🙂

I think they would be your SIL, but I am not 100% sure if it is the “proper term”. My Fiance has one brother who is married and I call her my SIL. Even if it’s not the “proper term”, it’s way easier than saying “Wife of Brother-in-Law”!!!!

“Sisters-in-law” does accurately describe your relationship with them because you’re only related through law.

Yeah i agree, Sister in Law….(for better or worse! )

Yep, because you are quite literally “Sisters in law.”

I don’t know if it’s technically right, but I refer to my husband’s sister’s fiance my brother in law, and plan to continue to do so once they’re married 🙂

Technically she is your brother-in-law’s wife.

My sister-in-law could be:
- the sister of my spouse, or
- the wife of my brother, or
- the wife of my spouse’s brother. (This meaning is accepted by The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language (Third Edition, 1992), but not by all authorities.)

I was curious and that’s what google pulled up for me!

I would call them SILs. That’s what my FSILs call each other and will be calling me. Much easier than saying my brother-in-law and his wife so and so… Besides since we will all be belonging to the same “family” I think it just ties everybody together nicely.

SIL for sure. Although anyone know what the siblings of your -in-laws are? Just not related? Like my sister’s husbands brothers. I call them “brother in law-ish”

I don’t think I would consider them related. I’ve met the husband of my FI’s SIL only a handful of times. I guess I would only count them as family if we actually did family activities together.

I agree with everyone else SIL!
