South Africa has been in full lockdown for 2 weeks now, and 99% of shops and businesses are closed.
I left my house and went to the grocery shops today for the second time since lockdown began, and there were plenty of supplies. They were running low on small bags of flour though (mostly only had the huge ones), and I had to buy a big bottle of lemon juice because the little ones were sold out. But my local shop has been pretty well-stocked, with the exception of the day before lockdown began – when I went to the shops on that day, they were running out of nearly everything. Cream, eggs, pasta, and cheese were among the things I battled to find. But after lockdown started, the shops got stocked again.
Within the handful of shops that are open during lockdown, there are also lots of things that have been cordoned off and we are not allowed to buy. Examples are any kind of beauty products, magazines, and perfume.
Just one week to go – God, I can’t wait for it to be over.
