@ponyrider:  I don’t understand. You said in the beginning of your post you bought a diamond, but now you aren’t sure?

ETA: Moissanites often test as diamonds, not because of their “look,” but because of their chemical makeup.

It looks like moissy to me, but it might be hard to tell from a picture!

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think there is a Moissanite tester. Diamond testers exist, and Moissys often test positive with those.

on older diamond testers, moissanite tests positive as a diamond. you have to find some jeweller who has a specific moissanite tester.

or get an experienced jeweller who can tell by looking through a loupe – they can see the double refraction of moissanite if they know what they are looking for. i’ve even seen it myself under my jeweller’s loupe!

@mepayne: No, they make moissanite testers now, I think.

What’s the cut and clarity of your stone? Or rather, what is it supposed to be? In addition, is your ring considered clean or dirty in this photo?

Where did you buy it from? Didn’t it come with a certificate or something? Mine did so I sort of assumed all diamonds did?

edit: Ahhh, i see it’s ebay. Eeeks, not sure what to say!

Do you have more pics of it?  Can you take a pic in your car or outside in more natural lighting?  Moissy will show some  colour change in unfavourable lighting.  The table is quite flat, but a diamond could be cut that way.  Diamonds will flash colours as well, but moissy is like sparkle on crack.  It will literally look like a disco ball rainbow in the sun if it is moissanite.

This must be so frustrating for you. I’m sorry you have to deal with this!

I’m no diamond/moissy expert, but the way the properties of that stone are acting in that video makes me all-around suspicious. They really seem to have to work to get it to react much to the light. 🙁

Good luck on your search for an answer!
