So fiance and I can go to a 4.5 star resort, the Hyatt, in Maui during a holiday season week(december/january) and get airfare and car rental included. We live in CA, so this is better flying to Hawaii, rather than fly far over snowy areas to the Caribbean. We can get it all for this price: 4,922…for 7 nights. The hotel is right on the beach and you can get a small honeymoon package. It’s along the strip with the activities/action of maui, including a city right there. This is an offer through a AAA travel agent. I have to decide in 24 hours whether or not to take it. The agent said that this hotel she thinks has a honeymoon type of ambience/recommends it. There are birds in an atrium and penguins there, a large pool, a big waterslide, etc.
Do you think it’s worth it or a good deal?

I think it’s a pretty good price for the Hyatt in Maui, plane, and car rental. I will say the Hyatt is beautiful. Def. a good choice and pretty close to everything. I can’t remember if it’s them or a different hotel that has their section of the beach closed off to other people. And if I remember correctly it’s beach on one side and a mountain view on the other. Check into what kind of car. I wouldn’t get anything super wide because if you go exploring the roads can get narrow.
Side note: If you do it be sure to check out the other side of the island there are some amazing waterfalls and you can swim in the water pools under them… kinda chilly but once in a lifetime kind of stuff.
Oh, I didn’t see you were going in Dec/Jan- they do whale watching trips then!
Good luck!

The agent says she “THINKS” this hotel has a honeymoon feel to it???? Doesn’t sound like she knows for sure. I think you need to do more research since alot of money is at stake; be sure to check out traveller reviews about the hotel on tripadvisor.com. And check other websites for deals and packages. You are sure to find a good deal somewhere. Don’t feel forced into making a decision that may not be ideal, especially since you’re spending $5K on this. good luck (p.s. you may be able to book this trip on your own for less, btw, without needing to use a travel agent at all).

It’s probably because it’s the Hyatt, but that sounds pretty expensive. We’re going to Maui (from Chicago) and our package including a brand new one bedroom condo at Houna Kai Resort for 9 nights which is also right on the ocean, airfare for two, and car rental was closer to $3000. What kind of room would you be getting? I can imagine paying that much for a standard hotel room no matter what kind of honeymoon package they threw in.

We did not go through a travel agent when we booked ours.

Not sure, we booked a 6 night stay at a boutique hotel in Honolulu for around $1900. We are flying from Baltimore and the trip price includes airfare, the hotel. and a rental car. We went straight though Travelocity to get the best deal. We are also going in early Dec too.

Well I think it’s weird because the pricing was not broken down individually for me to see…I think I should ask: broken down by room, plane, car….. Oh the travel agent said she definitely recommended the hotel for honeymooners and not the other choices…
Condos in general are cheaper I believe.
Also, it’s much more expensive to hawaii(to fly) during the HOLIDAYS……this New Years week, right after xmas. I just checked on travelocity and its spitting out the same type of price range for every option(different hotels)…I think its just EXPENSIVE during the holidays, plus I heard it is from Hawaiian native, as well. Also, I think it’s based by location. The hotel that the travel agent suggested is in the heart of the beach/activity area….if you stay in the more remote areas of the island its less expensive.

I don’t know about the price but it’s a nice hotel. I got to see it in June (if it’s the one in Kaanapali, Maui) and it’s nice, with an Asian influence in the decor and a pretty good pool. I wouldn’t mind honeymooning there…
