My husband and I were married a couple weeks ago, and it was a great ceremony and reception. I loved how everything turned out, except one thing: my dad wasn’t there. He wasn’t able to afford the ticket and even if he had, all airports were closed due to the blizzard. He lives in California, and to see him and have a fun ‘beach trip’, myself, hubby, hubby’s and my mutual friend (his best man) and his girlfriend were planning on taking a road trip down there (from Illinois). I’m thinking about having a little ‘reinactment’ while there, on the beach, so my dad can ‘give me away’. When he told me he couldn’t make it he said we’d celebrate together this summer (he was planning on coming here). Is this a good idea? It’d also be a nice memory (I have next to none with my dad from the past 7-8 years) and a good contrast to our ‘in the snow’ photos. So here’s my questions:
If I do this, should I bring my dress, or find a summery short white dress? My dress is a huge ballgown, probably not beach-friendly and really hot. Plus I don’t want to ruin my gown, because we’re throwing a Masquerade in October I planned on rewearing it for.
How should we plan it? Just take our vows with and exchange them?
Is there anything I can do to make my dad feel ‘special’ or like a part of things?
