Honestly kids are cruel no matter WHAT your name is.  They will find a way to twist it.  I like the name and it just makes me completely sad at how many people on this thread have never heard of Persephone….  However the middle names of Libby Kate would definitely make me choose a different first name that actually went with them.  Persephone Libby Kate just sounds hugely contrived and awkward.

@nearlymarriedlass:  Why wouldn’t it be pronounced or spelled correctly? Any educated person or middle schooler should be familiar with the Persephone myth.

I know that comes off as elitist, but I definitely learned enough Greek mythology in my inner-city elementary and middle schools. People should at least be able to recognize the name. Teaachers should definitely know how to spell and pronounce it.

Ha, I know how it’s pronounced at least. I like it. Wouldn’t choose it myself, but it’s ok.

I like its ties to Greek mythology but I don’t think it would be an easy name to take out on the playground and for that reason I would never personally name my child that.

I’m not sure that I would name a child that, but I actually think it’s a beautiful name.

I’m in the minority. I really like it. My daughter’s name is Penelope. I think it would be super cute for little Penny and Percy to be running around. This is pretty specific to my situation though… I digress.  I like it and I think this Persephone Elizabeth kate sounds cute.

@MissBettsy:  +1!  Also studied greek mythology in primary school in NZ, so I (and I assume most of my friends) know where the name comes from, and how to pronounce it.

That said, I’m not sure I would want to name my child Persephone.  It’s a lovely name, but unless I had Greek heritage I probably wouldn’t choose it.

I LOVE this name!! My fiance and I have discussed baby names and this has come up numerous times. I think its beautiful….

    …but….

#1 it will never be pronounced correctly because it is so unique,

and #2 the name comes from the greek goddess of the underworld, not necessaraly the most wholesome of names…

I still think its pretty though. And it would shorten to Steph or Stephanie so she could always write it that way in school.

@nearlymarriedlass:  I went to school with a Persephone and no one teased her because of her name. If you want to name your child something a little unusual I would rather it be an actual namer rather than something made up and spelled wrong. I think it’s a nice name and most people I know would be able to spell/ pronounce it

@whoa_its_ash:  +1 to everyone trying too hard to be unique. Most of the names just scream “WTF were your parents thinking?”

    This name is awful. AWFUL.

I think it’s totally strange when someone names their kid after Greek mythology. I recently heard for someone naming their daughter Aphrodite. Niiice LOL. I think Persephone Libby Kate is a mouthful, and definitely doesn’t go together. I think the first name Libby, middle name Kate combination is very nice. Any chance that she will just drop the Persephone thing all together!?
