I think it kind of depends on your guests! I personally wouldn’t be annoyed, but it isn’t a request usually made.  Maybe you can incorporate the neutrals elsewhere? Have you and your BMs hold white/neutral flowers and decorate with neutral colors. Or have your BMs wear neutral colors and hold purple flowers? If it seems like your guests won’t be on board, there are lots of other ways to create the contrast!

I would grumble about being told what to wear.  I can’t think of anything I have that would fit that description and have a hard enough time finding stuff sometimes, even without the color restrictions.

I love the blue dress idea though!  A friend of mine did light blue and it was beautiful.

I wouldn’t care. I buy a whole new outfit for any event I attend. You know your crowd though, go for it if you don’t think it would cause too much trouble.

Ian positive you can find a “white” shade that will suit you. You aren’t the only pale bride in history.Maybe do a fun blue reception dress?

I think there was recently a thread started about light blue being the “new blush” of wedding dresses in this coming year!  I think it’s a beautiful idea and you should totally go for it!

I think that would be lovely. Since you’re having such a small guest list, most people are probably close enough to you that they won’t mind the suggestion. Just word it appropriately. For instance, you could put on your wedding website something about you wanting to “switch things up” (or whatever expression would be appropriate for you guys), and that you’d encourage people to play along and wear neutral and even “bridal” colors like “white, beige, tan, etc”, but remind people that they are not obligated. I would definitely mention your “vision” to your close friends & family, I’m sure they’ll get where you’re coming from without being offended. Just make sure they know it’s not “mandatory”, just that it’d be cool.

And to all the people complaining about the price of a new outfit…I’ve bought plenty of lovely things at the thrift store when I’m obligated to wear something specific but don’t have the expendable income. It’s fun to play along, and pretty much everyone can spare $2.

I think a light blue wedding dress would be so beautiful. You’d be like Cinderella! Also, purple bridesmaid dresses would go very nicely with the light blue dress. I would go with a violet for your bridesmaids. It’s a such a pretty shade of purple and it will contrast your dress nicely.

With regard to specifying what your guests should wear, I’ve been to many events where the host asked the guests not to wear 1-2 colors. In fact, for my wedding I’m asking that no one wear purple. While, I think it’s fine to ask your guests not to wear a certain color or 2, I don’t think its fair to limit your guests to only a few colors. I personally would like to have as many colors at my wedding as possible! A whole pallete of color will make your wedding seem more fun and festive as opposed to only having 3 colors.
