Hi Ladies….I can’t decide if I like my centerpiece mock-up. Does it need ‘more’?? Obviously I would love to cover the branches in crystals but I really can’t afford to do that. As shown the centerpiece cost me about $12 to make:
$3 vase filler
$1 4pk candles
$1 4pk votives
$4 lights wrapped around branches (using 40% off coupon at JoAnns)
$1 silver spray paint (aprox cost…1 can=$4 but covers alot of branches)
$1 crystals….really lucked out here. I work at a place that sells special order lights. Someone returned this light that had about 50 hanging crystal strands and 30 crystal spears….It was orig $150 but I waited until it got marked down to $10 and bought it! I have enough to do about 10 centerpieces (5 crystal strands per centerpiece and 3 crystal ‘spears’ per centerpiece.)
Thoughts..? Should I add flowers to the branches? Should I bite the cullet and buy more crystals??

i think it looks great as is. i would just have some sort of fabric square underneath it all that you set on top of the table cloth (you could also do a mirror or a tray, anything to set the vase and candles on). it will give more dimension.
i wouldn’t add more flowers or do more crystals. it’s pretty!
i bought some silk dupioni fabric and sewed 14 x14 squares to put on top of our tablecloths… it made the centerpieces stand out more!

i personally think it’s missing something…. maybe the blue stones are throwing me off.

I would recommend putting it all on a mirror. It will add more light and depth from the reflection and tie it together as one single unit.

I should have mentioned that I am not going with blue stones in the vase…I am going to be using clear stones…

@misskittykakes: I was just going to suggest going with clear stones! 🙂 I think it looks really pretty as is.

What about adding some flowers (silk or real) in the top portion of the vase – on top of the blue stones? I’m not suggesting something that goes up high – you have the vertical covered with the branches, but just something to kind of cushion between the stones and where branches really come out.

Great ideas Ladies….I will probably use a mirror or fabric of some sort under the centerpieces. The flowers on top of the stones in the vase is a great idea as well…

I think it is pretty. Maybe put some white flowers draped around base of branches at the top of the vase. You could possibly scatter some of the glass marbles around the votives. On a contrasting tablecloth.

I saw this in the gallery the other day and LOVED it!! How about some tissue flowers?
Tissue Paper Carnations

I like the mirror idea but I think it looks great the way it is.

I think it depends on the angle at which you view the centerpiece. The top pic has an obvious gap bewteen the two branches so it looks a little sparse, but the second pic looks great!
I would try adding some silk flowers or even feather at the top of the vase.
Try some different ideas for a base. Those little round mirrors can appear a bit dated.
or a large square or round mirror that is lareg enough for the candles to also sit on it
you can also get thin sheets of easy to cut copper or aluminum at craft stores
pebble tiles would also work- a nice contrast bewtween the stones and crystals

I think it’s got enough crystals, but I think it need something underneath. If you’re having table runners that’d work, or maybe a square of fabric or some scattered petals or stones.

How about some fake rose petals to “soften” the look up a bit? Looks great though!
