I think it’s an elopement with an at-home reception. Or a ‘marriage celebration’ once you get home.

or do people need to witness you getting married for it not to be considered elopement.

Some counties or provinces require witnesses to be married by law.  They sign the marriage license.  But those can still elopements in my mind. 

If you have any extra guests beyond the required # of witnesses (witnesses can be people you know or strangers), then I’d call that an intimate or private wedding.


For your AHR invitations, you could say “B&G were married privately in Paris, join us for a marriage celebration!”
