So I never really researched hair/makeup places… my mother’s hairdresser also does wedding hair and makeup, so she arranged it with them to do our hair and makeup and I figured it was fine. I’ve met with the girl that will be doing it and she seems nice, she did my makeup trial and it was alright. I thought she went a little dark on the eyes, but that can be fixed for the wedding day… I suppose.
Anyway, I feel like the prices they are charging are really high and I have no idea! Can someone help me gauge? If they are too high, I may look into another place even though I only have exactly 1 week!?!?! I’m not totally thrilled with this place and don’t really feel any love lost if we switch. We have no deposit to lose or anything. We were just going to go to the salon, not have them come out, so I don’t think it would matter if we cancel. The scheduling that we did was very informal.
So here are the prices. First of all, they told me that they can’t even give a price quote for doing everyone’s hair because “everyone’s hair is different and we just have no idea until we actually see it!” That sounds like BS to me, but maybe it is how all salons do things? But they did say that a basic blow dry and style would be $30, and that updo’s would be more than that. I’m guessing a lot more. But they wouldn’t give me any idea. I think the blow dry style price is ok, but it makes me really nervous not having an estimate for the updo’s. Also, the makeup was like $30 or $35. Is that ok?
Plus we have 6 people coming, and they are giving no group discount. What do you think?? Is this reasonable? Should we try to find someone else or just go with it?

That sounds pretty cheap to me actually.

Where are you located? In my neck of the woods this is a bargain, i was charged $50 just for the consultation!

i agree with pp. that sounds really cheap.

@seAprilbride: It seems very reasonable, if not very inexpensive. In my area, makeup applications can be up to $65 or $70 and bridal updos typically start around $65 and go up from there.

This sounds dirt cheap to me actually. Where are you from? I’ve never gotten a haircut under $50 in my life and my wedding hair and makeup were each over $100…I’d be afraid of a $30 hairstyle it sounds so cheap to me here on the east coast! lol

Awwww man, that’s heaps cheap! Haha. Ours will be $100per person for hair and $100per person for (airbrush) makeup!!

I was charged like $80 for my consultation and my makeup was 100 something! I think… Maybe it was $75 and I’m exaggerating. Either way, I went with someone super high end. The prices they are quoting you sound really cheap. If you’re nervous about the updo cost why don’t you call them or go in and tell them that you are budgeting and you really need to know how much an updo is going to be. You can show them a picture or explain the style, but that you don’t feel comfortable using them without knowing final prices for things. Then maybe get it in writing.

That is a bargain! My bridal makeup and hair will cost 100 for each. My bridesmaids will cost 75 each.

Haha WHAT? We’re looking at $75+ for hair and $75+ for makeup for BMs. Bridal is $100+ for each.
If it’s so easy and quick to do, do it yourself.

$30/ $35 for makeup? OMG I would die for something that cheap. The average for upstate NY is about $100 for hair $80 for makeup. The people who travel to you are usually over $200.
I am paying $75 for a trial and $80 for the day of, and that’s one of the cheapest places around.
I do think you need to make your place nail down more of a price. But it sounds prety cheap to me.

Wow, thanks so much everyone!! I feel so much better hearing that these prices are actually really good!
This is just one area where I had no clue at all what might/might not be reasonable. I usually just get an inch trimmed off my hair at your bargin basement $10 haircut place and nothing fancier, so I really wouldn’t know.
I hate revealing my location, but we are in an area that is pretty much right in the middle (not too huge city expensive, not too rural). That’s been my experience with all our other vendors, anyway.

I know its usually regional….. but that sounds like a steal to me. I know where I am getting married I will be looking at between 100-180 for hair and makeup just for myself. Though, depending on how many of us go that route I hear that they do usually give discounts. At that price though, I can see why they don’t. Most makeup counters charge about the same for makeup so I don’t think they are overcharging. Them not telling you about updo’s is a bit odd, maybe you can show them a picture of what you are thinking of and then they can give you an idea?

My updo was $50, but my hairdresser usually charges $75. The discount was her gift to me!

My hair will be $75, and make-up is $35!
