I had to deal with this at my last job. I knew my co-worker was just being silly and fun, but it still made me uncomfortable. It is hard to explain because it wasn’t “teetering on the edge of HR inappropriate” uncomfortable. It was just a too much sort of thing. I would say if you are feeling uncomfortable I would either ignore him and hope he quits or tell him maybe he needs to tone it down in the office.

Some people just fail miserably at knowing proper social etiquette. :p I work in an extremely male dominated field at the moment (electrical engineering), so I’ve got all kinds of socially awkward interactions over here, most of all from the older men. I tend to just ignore it/them or just tell them to shut up (we have a laid back office environment, so this may not work for you though!).

sounds like innocent joking to me and not flirting. You opened a door and now maybe he’s crossed over into inappropriate territory that makes you uncomfortable.  It sucks but either you say something to him which will be awkward or you kind of have to deal with it I guess. This is why I think it’s important to not get too personal with coworkers.

@mustbu86:  Considering all of his jokes are of the sexual nature, yeah, he’s flirting with you. Mildly, perhaps, but I still consider it flirtation. I’d rein in discussions of 50 Shades of Grey and the like before it gets further out of hand and you don’t have a leg to stand on if you ever had to go to HR for help. This is your job. There are other ways to be friendly.

He’s in charge of how creepy he allows himself to get, and you are in charge of how much you let this occupy your head space…so he’s a creepy co-worker with awkward sexual innuendo problems…next time he hurls some off beat 50 Shades of Grey reference at you, tell him to count you out since you threw your back out humpin his mom last night….

@Nona99:  Hahaha. Your mom jokes are the best way to deflect EVERYTHING. Great idea 😉
