It looks too casual and I don’t think accessories will dress it up enough. I would pick something else.

Personally I love it and think your outfit sounds great. I could see more conservative people being weirded out by such a dress, but as long as the branch of your dh’s family that you know wouldn’t shun you, I think I’d go for it.

Bluntly honest: it’s not a flipping cocktail dress.  It looks like a giant Tshirt.  Go find something nicer.

glitterati :  It honestly looks like an oversized t-shirt to me, which would be far too casual. I’d save it for another occasion.

Agree with PP, not quite dressy enough for “cocktail attire”. Cute dress though!

I think it’s fine for a wedding in general, and how you plan to style it is great although it might be pushing it for an evening “cocktail attire” wedding.

glitterati :  I don’t mean it’s a t-shirt dress.  I mean it literally looks like a T-shirt.  If someone was asked to draw one, that’s what they’d draw.  The back doesn’t make it any better, IMO.  You don’t have to go tight to have a nice dress but this one just looks far too casual.

I really like this dress- but I would pair them up with some awesome shoes that play off the pattern of the dress

glitterati :  I like it and I would wear something like it! Yes, it would work for a city cocktail event given your update and I’ve gone to fair amount of big-city weddings. While I wouldn’t wear it to a barn wedding, I think a slightly funkier look fits in fine at an urban venue as long as the extras are nice, and it sounds like your errings, black clutch and shoes would be. I don’t think cocktail = tight (Well I did when I was a teen!). I think of it more as the length and how elevated the look is.

I think it’s fab as a wedding guest dress. Nobody’s gonna look at you, they’ll be too busy looking at the bride! Wear it! You gotta wear your own style!

I love it! It’s so different from what you normally see and if it’s your style I say go for it.
