    glitterati :  I too think it looks like an oversized T-shirt. Not all cocktail dresses are tight but this dress looks too casual. I also am not a fan of the dress in general so that could also be why I think it’s weird and not appropriate for a wedding that states “cocktail attire”

    I was at a wedding in Dallas last weekend. The dress is totally appropriate. You sound very fashionable and you will likely get a lot of compliments.

    glitterati :  i think it depends on the material. i have no issues with the cut/fit of it as a cocktail dress (I live in NYC and can totally see this style with some strappy heels and statement earings at an event or gallery opening). for me, the differentiator here as to whether it’s dressy or casual is the actualy fabric. is it cotton? too casual. is it silk? perfect.

    I personally do not care for it, but I think on the right person they could pull it off. I would call my style classic/conservative/modern (probably too many lol) with a random pop of color mixed in, so my opinion probably doesn’t matter (?). lol

    For a wedding at a sculpture center, I think it’s perfect.

    Pair it with some statement shoes and an updo!

    I think it’s appropriate. Chic. Fun. It will be great for a cocktail wedding at an art museum! 

    In fact, more appropriate than some of the outfits suggested in this thread.

    It reads as a cocktail dress to me, and I’m envious because I love it but it wouldn’t work on my body shape.

    That doesn’t read as a cocktail dress at all to me. I love it, but I’d think more for a fun outdoor wedding than a cocktail attire one.

    Also, I ditto the no busy or patterned shoes. Solid color will look best and let the dress stand out. I think it’d look great with an updo and long earrings. No necklace. And a colorful clutch!
