So I finally got my dress. The alteration lady quoted me $25 for bustle, $60 for built in cups, and $125 for taking in at the bust. So the total is $210. I don’t know if this is expensive or to. I’m debating whether or not I should take the dress with me and ask other places.

That sounds pretty reasonable to me, but I would still get a few other quotes. It also depends on your region, but in Portland I was getting quoted around $150 just for a hem. I went to a local seamstress in our little town about a mile away from me, and it’s costing me $135 for a hem, cups sewn in, fixing beading, fixing rouching, adding tulle (so I don’t need a crini), steaming, and cleaning.

@Shoppe: I think its reasonable, but it all depends if she will do a good job. Mine is $225 for taking it in a size, hem (many layers) and a bustle. I’m always willing to pay a little bit more to make sure the job is done correctly. You can probably find somebody to do your dress for much less, but will you really want them doing your alterations?

@Shoppe: I just posted about this not too long ago, my alterations are costing $362, others were quoted $500-$600+!

It all depends on the dress and your area.
My bustle was $125 but it was about as complicated as it could be, requiring 18 ties! If you’re nervous about the price get a second opinion.

I think that sounds pretty reasonable. I hope my alterations are that inexpensive.

I think that sounds very reasonable. I paid $150 for everything and my best friend, who just had her alterations appt., was quoted $390.

That sounds reasonable. I paid around $150 for bustle, cups sewn in, and for the bust and waist to be taken in.

I know this may sound cheaP but I finally got a second opinion. My coworker recommeneed this other seamstress. I took my dress there and she quoted me $85 for everything, excluding the bustle. I’m planning to get a reception dress anyway. So glad it’s even cheaper than I had imagine.
