Here are the lyrics – for what it’s worth, I always thought the song was about sex lol, but reading what the band has said, it’s about love being about more than just the words “I love you”, in which case it’s kind of a perfect wedding song.

<div style=”caret-color: #3c4043; color: #3c4043; font-family: Roboto-Regular, HelveticaNeue, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; -webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);”>Saying I love you
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It’s not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only knew
How easy it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn’t have to say that you love me
‘Cause I’d already know
What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn’t make things new
Just by saying I love you

More than words
La di da, da di da, di dai dai da

Now I’ve tried to talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands and touch me
Hold me close don’t ever let me go
More than words is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn’t have to say that you love me
‘Cause I’d already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away
Then you couldn’t make things new
Just by saying I love you

La di da, da di da, di dai dai da
More than words
La di da, da di da, di dai dai da
More than words
La di da, da di da
La di da, da di da, more than words
La di da, da di da, di dai dai da
La di da, da di da, more than words (oh uh uh uh)
More than words</div>

Never having heard it, just reading the lyrics it sounds really sad.  But you do you

It’s a sweet song. I wouldn’t worry about that.

I’ve always found it a sad, lamentful song.  I still think that after reading the lyrics.

Hm. Never thought of it as meaning anything inappropriate. If you like it, go for it.

Mlim :  I think that if it’s a special song for the two of you and it feels right then go for it. I’ve heard this song many times but never thought deeply about the lyrics. I’m sure it can be interpreted many ways, as most songs can. I think that overall, the sound of the song has an upbeat, romantic vibe and is fine for the occasion. Good luck deciding!

I’m always an advocate for choosing whatever song you want for the first dance. Most people should be smart enough to know the song isn’t an exact representation of your relationship, but just a nice song that has meaning to you two.

This issue seems to come up alot, and my theory is that most great love songs aren’t about just being happy and in love, because that’s kind of trite and boring. So people end up falling in love with songs that are sometimes a little sad or dark. But like I said, if the song has meaning to you, then that’s what matters.

Also, I know another couple that used this song and I thought it was lovely

I totally think the song is about sex and I agree that it’s a sad song BUT if you don’t see it that way, that’s all that matters. It’s your song. Use it if it is special to you.

I too have always thought it was a super sad song about his love not reciprocating. I would think it was weird if I heard it at a wedding.

Mlim :  I’ve always thought this was a really beautiful song and wouldn’t think it inappropriate for a first dance song! It’s even more special since it’s a special song for you and your FI!

I don’t think a first dance song has to be about love.  It is a song that has meaning to the couple.  It can be funny or sappy or metal or whatever.

If this is your song, then I think you should use it regardless of the lyrics.
