I like them. Her pics may not appeal to everyones style though. They are all pretty but none are really sharp.

No one can run a successful business doing 75 dollar sessions, unless your name is “The Picture People” or “JCPenny Studios,” both having a larger franchise behind them and working off high volume.

Your sister needs to price herself for the profit she needs to do this full time and then find her market.  There are successful high end photographers making a living in depressed areas like Detroit, so I don’t buy that her whole area is full of cheapo’s.

She needs to stop competing on price, and start competing on value, customer service, and brand.

I’m super duper picky about photography and I think she’s very talented. I like her use of color and compositions. I don’t like the use of props and very posed portraits, but that’s a personal style thing.

I found out I was pretty picky with photographers’ style and work when we were looking for our wedding photographer. Based on your sister’s work, I would have highly considered her as a potential photographer….I love the outdoor pics! I don’t think your sister should quit because she has talent and with more time within the business she will grow.

I’m just curious as to where she is located because you mentioned ppl do not want to spend a lot of money for photographers. In South Florida, on average, wedding photography costs about 3k+!!! Some photographers who actually charge this rate aren’t great photographers at all! We are spending less than the average and our photog is amazing and her work is worth more than she charges.

I think they look great.  The photographer who is doing my wedding actually does it on the side though and is a full-time teacher, like me.  Maybe your sister could try that out until she can build up a bigger clientele for photography?

I second taking the music off the website, I really hate that 🙂  The photos are beautiful though!

She has a good eye for composition, and I personally really like the saturated colours. Only nit-picks would be some of them are a little overexposed (skin in particular), and a couple are rather obviously over-edited. The good thing is that these are pretty easy issues to address, and she has the hard stuff nailed.

It might be impractical where you live (or too expensive), but I’ve had really good success in marketing by hooking up with a service like Deal Chicken or the like and offering a REALLY too good to resist discount offer on my service (I’m a children’s party planner :-)).  Even if those who use the discount don’t use anything beyond the discounted offer, if you do a good job, they will recommend you to friends and family.  Twitter is also helpful–I’m pretty sure you could even tweet pictures!

Oh, and before I get deleted or anything, I promise I’m not advertising my business on here, just offering advice from someone in a tangential business.

fwiw, I’d hire your sister in a heartbeat–I love her style “overexposed”, “saturated”, and all!

Hate to be a stick in the mud but this entire thread is against all the weddingbee rules regarding self promotion, especially posting a link to your sisters business page and watermarked photos. You could certainly ask the same question posting unwatermarked images and leaving her biz name a mystery and still get the answers you’re looking for so it doesn’t look like you just posted this to get her business.

@natbug21:  If you weren’t breaking the rules, your photos and links wouldn’t have been removed – you even posted her prices for Pete’s sake! Don’t shoot the messenger. I was actually giving you the benefit of the doubt and just trying to let you know. And recaps of YOUR OWN wedding are different from posting random pictures of your sister’s photography and her prices and website. This site isn’t for free advertising.
