Okay, I’m having some commitment issues! I tried on this dress and immediately felt like “whelp this is it!” I know that I got that feeling, I should just get the dress right? The only problem is it is the exact opposite of everything I thought I wanted! (Although, to be fair, so is my whole wedding!) We are getting married March 23rd catholic ceremony, downtown loft space reception for some context. Should I just go buy the dress? Here is what it looks like on me (just a hair small in the chest):
But this is more like what I had in mind….
I really don’t like a lot of lace, and this dress is full of it. Because I am really busty, I wanted straps and this dress has none. I’m also worried that its the only dress that really fit that day, and if that played a part in it? Any larger but not quite plus sized brides have the same experience? Just picking something that actually fit when you tried it on? Anyone else wear this dress, and could I see it?
Anyway, I’m just looking for some opinions as to whether I should keep looking or just go back and get this one?

Sunshine024 : I think you look completely beautiful in the dress. The lace detailing is gorgeous! Brides are told to try on dresses in every style becuase of exactly this reason. Sometimes what you love on isn’t what you thought you would.
Have you tried the style you thought you wanted? If not, go try on this style in stores. The dress will look different on every person. You must try them on for yourself. Even if it’s not the exact dress. Try on a similar satin dress with no detailing, see it on. Then decide on the which dress to buy.

Sunshine024 : i think it looks lovely on you, but unless you’re in a tight timeline situation (like, you need to order it NOW), i’d go and try on a few more dresses first. not because you can do better, but because it may help give you peace of mind. right now, you’re still kinda doubting it, and that doubt ha a way of planting itself and growing in the 6+ months you’re waiting for your gown to actually come in. try on a few more dresses so that you feel 100% on this when you pull the trigger.

Keep looking! You look lovely in that dress but I actually prefer your inspiration dress. I am not a huge fan of lace either, it’s beautiful but it doesn’t go well with every style. Have you tried on something similar to the inspiration dress?

I love the dress you’re wearing! esp the lace at the bottom, its form fitting and shows your curves. I really don’t think the dress in the picture will do your body justice. It sounds like you need to keep searching though, you can always come back to the first dress if needed.

It looks beautiful on you!! I had that same feeling when dress shopping for my first wedding. I was pretty sure that dress was the one but it was nothing like I had envisioned. I tried on a bunch more dresses and nothing else compared to that dress so I went back & purchased it. I never had that overwhelming “I’m a bride, this is IT!!!” moment; it was a very logical decision for me, even though that dress wasnt what I had “planned”. If you have time, try on a bunch more. You’ll figure out pretty quickly if you’re wasting your time or not!

I think the A-line you posted would look stunning on you. Don’t get me wrong, you look lovely in the lace number, but I do think thatan A-line would work better for your figure.

I think you should try on a dress closer to your original vision before you make any decisions!

Your inspiration dress is designed for a person with much smaller boobs. I would keep looking.

Yes, have to agree with pps who say keep looking . The dress you have on is pretty , if a bit generic and I agree the inspiration dress is made for a smaller boobed woman . But there are plenty of classic ones like it that have more back and straps etc Do try them.

The dress looks great on you but if you are asking us then it’s probably not WOWing you. I’m sure there’s a dress out there that you will really love. I am a medium/large size and was annoyed at some bridal stores where many dresses only came in small/xsmall sizes. Don’t lose hope, you will find your perfect dress. You don’t have to settle, there are plenty of stores to try.

Sunshine024 : I ended up getting a dress totally different to what I thought I wanted and I am so glad I did because it looks the best of me. By The Way, March 22nd bride here – it’s soon coming around!

Sunshine024 : If time is on your side I would recommend you try on your inspiration dress and compare pictures. You look really beautiful in this dress, don’t get hung up on the fact that it’s not what you wanted. Focus on how it looks on you and how you feel. I bought a dress that looked totally different from what I originally wanted. PS. I have big boobs and I found that strapless looked best on me, don’t be afraid to shy away from sleeves.

Sunshine024 : I voted “keep looking”, especially if you haven’t actually tried on the one/style you’re dreaming about yet. I also tried on about 30 dresses and was pretty ready to just pick one and be done but I hadn’t tried on my dream dress yet and my mom and ‘maids wouldn’t let me buy before I had. I’m so grateful. Ended up buying my dream dress off the hanger moments after I finally got to try it on later that same day.

So, not sure why this just popped up because I wrote this a week ago! Anyway, I actually took all of your advice and kept looking. I tried on the super simple dresses and they just were not super flattering in my stomach area. I actually went to a second salon that had this same dress but in the ivory on ivory instead of the ivory on “oyster” or a darker base. After I found a simpler dress that I liked the most (same shape and off the shoulder. The A-line style just made me look bigger) I tried this one back on and everyone forgot about the other one! We did this 3 times with every type of dress! Simple, super beaded, even more lace, chiffon rouching, every time, I put this one on, it was like we forgot about the last “favorite”. I finally gave in, and just accepted that this was my dress!
Even the manager of the store, who knew that if it was this dress I would buy it somewhere else, said “I see why you love this one. It looks so good on you. And it actually looks like a very simple shape” and with the lace the same color as the under part, it actually fits more into the simple look I was looking for, it is not as noticeable. So I actually bought it from that store because they had a trunk sale going on!
I actually didn’t think I would get “the feeling” when I tried on a dress. I am very analytical and just not that girl that has imagined her wedding since she was 4. I just assumed I would prefer a simple dress because that is more my style. But I completely got “the feeling” each time I put on this dress (especially the first time)! I didn’t want to take it off! My mom said I just lit up when it was on and I just walked differently. She could tell I felt good in it! And I can tell becuase it is what photographed the best! So my advice, definitely try on other dresses if you are unsure, but if you get the feeling, just give into it!
