I know in a Catholic ceremony, if you are having a full mass, the bride and groom sit for a while.

Yes, I’ve seen this happen during a full Catholic wedding mass.  Not sure which religion you’re looking at, but I’m guessing it’s because the length of the ceremony.  The Catholic wedding mass is like 45-60 minutes long, so it would be a long time to be standing.

I’ve never seen it happen, but I have heard of it happening.

I think it is more common in longer religious ceremonies. All the weddings I’ve been to have been short and secular ceremonies.

I’ve never been to a wedding where this happened but that’s because I’ve never been to a catholic wedding. I know it’s a common practice for that particular regligion and I think also for some Episcipal (sp?) and perhaps more Orthodox Luthern services as well.

We had an Anglican (Episcopal) wedding w/ communion and there was sitting for us.  We also knelt for many parts of the ceremony.

During a full or even part Catholic mass the bride and groom sit during the readings.

We sat durring the first half of our wedding…. while it was a religious ceremony, it wasn’t because of this that we did it.  For us it was because we skipped the whole walking down the aisle thing, it was a very small crowd and it worked really well with the layout of our venue…..

@Kari 2012: we sat and kneeled quite a few tims during our ceremony but we had a full mass. Catholic wedding’s without the mass basically cut out communion. you will still go through all the motions and do readings, gospel and homily so there will be a few chances for you to sit down.
