I’m nearly 23 weeks pregnant and have been having excruciating hip pain for the past two weeks, but its only in one hip. I’ve tried to stay active, but it hurts worse and worse these days when I even walk, much less go to Zumba or jog. Should I chalk it up to normal pregnancy pains or bring it up to my OB? Also, I work a job where I’m in my office two days, and on my feet working the hospital floor the other three days. Its fairly flexible…Should I talk to my OB about being put in the office all week or at least an additional day? I’m dreading going to work these days because I can’t make it all day on the hospital days. I’m so tired of hurting!

@ellebeerob: Im sorry you are in so much pain. Go to your OB or at least call her and let her know what’s going on, she might want to examine you and also ask her if she can write some note to your job about your working hours or physical activities. GL and i hope is nothing 😉

Def tell your OB, I did and got a PT appointment that was so helpful. Pregnancy doesn’t always mean you have to do without treatment! I have prescribed streaches and forbiden movements that have really helped me. You just need to find out from a PT if is a Siatic nerve being pinched or something else like a bulging disk. Be careful of the excersie, while wonderful that you are doing it, you could be doing bending that is causing more hurt than help!

@ellebeerob: I had/have almost the exact same symptoms. Really bad pain just around my left hip and back of the pelvis, and exercise seemed to make it worse. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this because it’s really hard!
I told my doctor about it, and she said mine was sacroiliac joint dysfunction. I ended up going to acupuncture for it, which is helping me function almost normally. I also bought a sacroiliac belt to wear during flare-ups. Talk to your doctor for sure and see what she/he says… I have also heard from friends that seeing a pregnancy-trained chiropractor can really help, too. Good luck. I hope it goes away soon.

Are your office days getting better? If not I would suggest a chiropractor. But definitely bring it up to your dr… maybe at the next appointment.

@stillme: I love being able to put a name with what it might be! I have an appointment Monday and I’ll be sure to ask my doctor. Mine is my left hip too! Good tip about the chiro – mine is actually a prenatal specialist, which I only found out this week. Nice to know I won’t have to go to someone new 🙂 I’m gonna have to book an appointment to go back in!
@MrsDW: My office days I feel pretty good! Today I made the mistake of exercising before working a long shift in the emergency room and I’m dying. A trip back to my chiro is in order!
