As of today I am 9 weeks and 5 days pregnant and for a week or so I’ve been having high abdominal pain. The best way to describe it is like a cramping/squeezing sensation right below my ribs. It kind of hurts, but it’s more intense and worrisome than anything. It only lasts a few seconds and it’s usually at its worst if I let myself get too hungry or even when I’m eating. I’ve had a micarriage before, so I’m just really worried.

Sounds like gas. I would think pain in that area is way too high to be pregnancy related.
Pregnancy hormones slow down your digestive system (hence all the lovely constipation and gas). That would be my guess at the pain you’re feeling.
Congrats on your pregnancy! Sending lots of sticky bean vibes your way!

Is it worse when you lean forward? If so, I had that too, a lot, and it went away in the second trimester.

urchin: Thanks! I hope that’s all it is..I didn’t gas pain could feel like that, though.
Tibbs: No, nothing really makes it worse. Sometimes rubbing the area a little will make it better, but that’s about it.

I think that since the pain is right below your ribs, and not further down, it’s nothing directly to do with your pregnancy.
I found that I got a sort of crampy feeeling just where you described in my first trimester, but it mostly happened when I was leaning forward, as I did when I was eating (for example). I asked my mum and she said she had that too in her first pregnancy, so possibly indirectly pregnancy related.
Anyway, I wouldn’t worry about it. Like Urchin said, it’s probably got to do with digestion.

I think it sounds normal…apparently your rib cage grows a bit during pregnancy, could just be some uncomfortable shifting and/or gas.
Congrats again! 🙂
