My wedding coordinator at the venue is suggesting I use escort cards telling people which table they sit at only, and not place place cards at the table itself. She says that most people end up moving the name cards at the tables anyways. I always assumed there would be place cards and escort cards. Does what she is suggesting make sense? Just do escort cards to assign people to the table but not necessarily each seat?

Every possibility known to man exists when talking about wedding planning.
If you have assigned the tables, the guests can likely decide who sits where.

@Willow1991: Yeah, that’s fairly common. I think the escort cards actually get a different name when they tell you what table you’re at, but there isn’t an assigned seat for you at that table. Anyway, it’s what we did, and it worked out fine!

I have actually never been to a wedding where there were place cards, only escort cards.

I’ve only ever seen escort cards. I think guests can seat themselves at a table.

@mrsSonthebeach: ditto. IMO both placecards and escort cards are overkill, since it really shouldn’t matter to you where they sit as long as they’re at the right table.

I think escort cards are far more common unless it’s a super formal wedding.

That’s what I’m doing. No need to assign their seats, I’m sure they can manage that part by themselves (I hope lol)

Now I have to find cute escort cards lol

That’s what I did 🙂 I find it more rare in my area to have seating place cards (maybe 3 out of the last 30 weddings I’ve been to).
As a guest, I prefer to pick my seat – so, I opted for that!

we are only having escort cards..we have “ornaments” made from card stock of victorian cameos and initals on one side- the back side will have the guests name and table book name – these will be tied to candy canes and then the candy canes will be put on a xmas tree along with a few ornaments with the same cameos handpainted.

I have an elegant enchanted forest theme…not whimsical boho sepia photo, more fancy…any ideas?

We had assigned seating, mostly because that’s the only way the caterer knew who ordered which meal. (We had a meat and a veggie option.)

@lauraq123: That was my concern too but she said just too put a little C for chicken, P fof pasta, B for beef in the corner of the escort cards along with a master food list for each table.
