Today I am 7w1d, and up until this point I have been eating like crazy. Then starting yesterday I just feel so full. I had breakfast today, but now this many hours later, I still feel full from it. I am about to force some lunch, but my stomach is turning at all the available options. I read that “eating might seem like a chore” in my books from my uterus growing, but I would think I would still feel hunger? Yesterday I only ate because I felt dizzy, not hungry.
Is this normal? Thanks!

@heathaah: I was the same way for a while. I had to think about eating in a bery methodical way, (like, you haven’t eaten in 5 hours, it’s time to fuel up) otherwise I would just forget all together. It passed after about 2 weeks, but it was very strange for me.

There is no normal anymore! I had days where I wanted to eat EVERYTHING and other days where I felt like a bloated whale and my husband would try and make a delicious meal and I’d just say ohhhh, looks delicious but I think I’m puking in my mouth just thinking of eating that.

Those that know me know that eating was a STRUGGLE like the first 9 weeks. Even when I thought I was hungry I would get in front of it and not want it. And I probably really lost my appetite right around 7 weeks. I know its so frustrating bc you have to eat or else you get sick but small meals are key. Just eat like every two hours a little something. Im 12 weeks now and just starting to get my appetite back but still not as ravenous as some bees.

@troubled: I agree that once your pregnant “normal” flies out the window! Just when you think you’re getting used to one thing it flips around. I have very hungry phases and then I have times when I cant even finish a bagel. I picked up these pepper & spinach chicken sausages from costco yesterday and cooked them with fresh ravioli but then I took one bite and decided I couldnt stand the taste, but I used to love it!

@heathaah: I’m so glad you asked this, because I was actually wondering myself. I’m 6w3d, and I swear from like week 3 (before I knew) until like the middle of week 5, I had to eat like every 1 1/2-2 hrs. And since about 5 1/2 weeks, it’s like someone flipped a switch! Now I go like 5 hours before I realize I NEED to eat something. Except for night time, that’s when my appetite seems to wake up and I crave bad stuff. I’m trying not to read too much into things, or I’ll worry, but it is reassuring to know others have experienced the samething.

Yup. It was normal for me to be simultaneously starving and not want to eat anything at all. Very weird.. but I agree, nothing is normal anymore!

Yep! Don’t worry about it. Hopefully you won’t experience the intense nausea and puking that I’ve been having. For me having no appetite was a pre-cursor to the evil evil morning sickness. Luckily your body will tell you that you need food by making you light-headed, like you said. Now I just constantly force small bites of easy-to-handle food like bread and cereal bars down my throat at all hours of the day. Ah the joys of the first trimester…

Yes! From 7-15 weeks my husband teased me about being on what he called “The 10-Bite Diet”. After a dozen bites of food, I was done. I broke it into smaller meals and snacks throughout the day when I wasn’t feeling queasy as hell.
At 20 weeks it still comes and goes, some days I’m starving, others, food = meh.
As the other posters said: Normal goes out the window!

Believe it or not, eating that frequently will help to speed up your metabolism and you won’t have that stuffed feeling all the time. That’s why all the doctors and baby books out there suggest eating 5-6 small meals a day, instead of 3 regular ones. Drinking tons of water helps to.
There was about a week where I felt stuffed no matter what, but it could just be things shifting around.

I felt that way till early in the second trimester. I thought it would last the rest of the pregnancy and that it might have to do with growing baby, but I was just noticing today that I have no problem eating a normal size meal anymore, and can be hungry again a few hours later. (23 weeks.)

Totally normal!!! I actually lost 14 lbs during my first trimester because I had no appetite at all! I could eat a bowl of cereal and stay full for hours!!! The doctor said I was okay as long as I did get nutrition! I would try to eat a healthy smoothie or even an ensure or somethign to make sure when I did eat I got plenty of nutrients!

I think it’s common in the first tri. I remember it coming back around week 12, the very bloated period. Now I can be stuffed and starving at the same time, explain that one to me 😉 lol I’m 34 weeks.
