- Wedding: September 2011
My family lives 16hrs from my FI’s family, and then a lot of my family is in Europe. It was hard to pick a location for everyone, but alas, we picked Location A. Then, because of multiple people giving their opinion, it was changed to Location B, but the comments still didn’t stop. We started to add everything up, noticed that the wedding would be approximately $20 000, even after setting a $10 000 budget. With a doubled budget, and guests STILL not happy with our choices, we said screw it, why spend $20 000 for a few hours and have people unhappy with our choices?! We decided to do a destination wedding with an invite that politely portrayed the ‘This is where we are tying the knot. Come join, or if you can’t, we’ll be holding two casual bbqs in the groom’s town and the bride’s town.’ Then, those that want to make the effort to come will, and those that are happy with a back yard bbq, can experience that too. People are still not happy. Like seriously, I thought this was OUR wedding?! So tempted to elope without any of them knowing. Then they can just deal with it. I know I shouldn’t care about what is said, but I take it personally..always wanting to make everyone happy. THIS is impossible!
