That ring looks exactly like the Tiffany Legacy ring set with a 1 carat sapphire, which TIFFANY’s sells for $10,000 here in the US. So yes, I definitely think its overpriced! You can definitely get that setting elsewhere for much cheaper.

Thanks everyone 😀
I saw a different Jeweller today and he said he can do it for around the $3000 including the centerstone (the price will depend on the stone i chose but i told him we’d probably spend between $500 – $1000 on it)

Fantastic! Glad to here you found someone sensible. It sucks that stuff is more expensive here in Oz. 🙁
Your ring is amazingly beautiful! I LOVE ovals, you are such a lucky girl. 🙂

That sounds much better! Are you in regional NSW?

I think we’re classed as Rural, I’m Just outside of Coffs Harbour (halfway between Sydney and Brisbane)
I’m a little worried because he hasn’t worked with Platinum for a ring before, So hopefully it’ll all work out 😀

@Blue-Bird:Platinum in jewelry is usually 2x the gold price, even though raw platinum is only around 10% more expensive than (24k) gold.
If you find it in gold for 800, don’t let him charge you over 1600.
Did the price include the small diamonds, or just the platinum?
Glad you didnt buy it yet!

Ooops, finally read your update! Good research, lady, glad you found a better jeweler!

A plain platinum band for $5,000?! Even Tiffany sells plain platinum bands for less than that ($1550 AU)! And you’d better believe they’re marking it up! That’s insane!
I’m so glad you found someone reasonable. Let us know how the ring turns out, I’m sure it will be beautiful!

dont forget that AUS$ is not worth as much as US$ beofre making a comparison.
i would think that the ring is way overpriced, just get the cheaper one and source the sapphire from elsewhere
